Escapism! Is not a good life strategy.
I am not going to sleep tonight. I have rehearsals from 7 am to at least 5 pm tomorrow; it is possible that I will be extremely cross tomorrow. Grouchy.
I spent like, an hour reading through TV Tropes - the links are endless, I swear. Reading the one on Supernatural makes me giggle, because yeah, well, it has a lot of them.
What was O: was that under the various slash-related tropes, I didn't find bandom mentioned at all, save My Chemical Romance. There was a LotR section, though, and I was fairly disturbed to see a video where the actors were doing ... schoolboy stuff like cheek-kissing at premieres and the-sticking-out-of-tongues-nearly-touching-each-other's that was scarily reminiscent of the Pete and Gabe's picture. It was. Weird. To see grown men doing things like that.
I conclude that there is a dearth of decent, Gattaca fanfiction (yes, I was serious!). It's interesting, though: I remember watching it during FPS in Sec 2, and I don't even remember all the subtext, etc. etc. (well, I didn't finish it, but nevertheless!). What stood out pretty clearly was the plot, and the sex scene between Irene and Vincent. Now, however, all the bits just jump out at me. What does that show? Is it an awareness that comes with age (and exposure) or is the awareness more illusory transference than actual. Text. Does it matter?
I really, really want to write fic for it, though. It - will require character exploration, a sharp writing style, etc. etc. I think that's awesome.
EYAs weren't particularly bad, technically speaking, iIn the sense that I think my expectations have increased perhaps irrationally, which is why I didn't score as well for some subjects as I wanted to have, but they're not drastically bad although I could have done a lot better for all the subjects, obviously.
