Following After Thee
Muggle hospitals are noisy, but here in Saint Mungo’s, without the humming and beeping of the life-preserving equipment, one might worry that they’ve gone deaf.

It isn’t until you get past the silencing charms surrounding each room that you realize the hush is a trick.

Remus steps through the white door, his eyes instantly drawn to the only thing that matters. The only thing he wants to look at. He’s sitting on the floor in the middle of the room, leaning against the stark, white-sheeted bed. They’ve dressed him in white as well and it seems as though they’re trying to suck him into the landscape itself. Impossible.

His red hair contrasts so sharply with the bed that it almost seems to give off its own light. His long legs are drawn up against his chest and while it seemed at first that he had been asleep, his head shoots up as the latch of the door clicks shut. His eyes, Remus was immediately taken aback by them, seem to silently accuse.

"Ron," he beings in a reverent whisper. “Hermione’s dead.”

Ron rolls his eyes. “I know,” he drawls. “He told me.”

Remus’ breath hitches in his throat. “I’m taking you out now. There’s no one to keep you here.”

Ron blinks. “Why? Don’t I belong here? Sane men don’t talk to dead heroes.” Each cold, hard word pounds on Remus as though it were a rock that Ron had thrown. His act is convincing, but Remus isn’t fooled. Ron’s lips are pink and his cheeks flush with emotion, as they have every time Remus has visited. He remembers those lips and that flush, and a time when they were Harry's doing.

"Come home with me Ron.”

Ron narrows his eyes, waiting for Remus to find the right words.

He tries. “I love you.” Blink.

Again. “I believe you.” When he sees the tears he knows for sure.

First attempt at this community and this pairing so feel free to criticize! (Or clue me in if I'm going about something in the wrong way!) I used a bible quote for my title because I wanted to seem smart. Pretty clever, eh? Hope you all enjoy!
