Misc life update 'n' stuff
WHOA two updates in a week, what is going on?
I want to try and use LJ more even though so many people have jumped ship, because Twitter and FB just don't fill the same niche. So. Random stuff to get back into the swing of posting!
AC
Tldr; canceling our trip to Pittsburgh, no money no time. Next stop, RF!
We decided to cancel AC this year. We've gone the last two years and it's been a lot of fun. We were already planning on skipping next year and trying a new con, so the idea of not going was already on the brain. We've got a lot of other travel this year (including HAWAII!!! for a wedding) so between travel costs and vacation time we are already feeling strapped. I went to look at airfare to Pittsburgh yet again, hoping that magically it wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. No such luck of course. And entire day of travel, no direct flights, and easily a grand in airfare? And that's just getting there and back. The con is fun, but we really only had two reasons to go this year; hanging out with friends and showing off a new fursuit I had planned. That suit is totally not happening, so it would just be a REALLY expensive few days of partying in Pittsburgh. And the more I thought about it, at least half the time we hang out with west coast friends we see at FC and/or RF anyhow. So that decided it. No AC this year, no AC next year. I'm excited to try something new next year, something with a direct flight! And decent food nearby would be nice, another ding against AC is eating crappy food all weekend. Ugh. Anyhow, we will really miss seeing east coast friends, but this is definitely a good call for us this year. We can put that money towards fancy digs in Hawaii, oh yeah :D
Puppy??
A couple of you are aware that boy and I have been in the process of finding a Siberian Husky puppy for quite some time now. We sort of started looking for a good breeder almost a year ago, and connected with some amazing people in the fall who had a litter planned. Unfortunately that litter only ended up being a single puppy, who has great show potential, so she's staying with the breeder. (We're not interested in a show dog, but the best breeders we've found breed for show and find homes for non-show pups. That's the situation here.) They were hoping for more pups themselves, so they are planning another litter as soon as one of their two potential moms is ready to be bred. So we're just waiting, still. It's been a bit frustrating, we managed to pick one of the most reputable breeders around, so now most everyone else seems subpar. And for some reason with this breed (or in this area), we've found a lot of reputable breeders who don't breed for pets, and have very very few litters (less than one a year), OR "puppytomorrow.com" sorta shit that is clearly puppy mills. There's very little in between (high quality pet breeders).
Good news is these breeders adore us and they've pretty much said the second they have a non-show pup it is OURS. That was pretty great to hear! Anyhow, the second we get a pup everyone will know :)
