It was brought to my attention earlier this evening at my going-away party that not even my good friends know what I'm doing. Everyone knows that I'm moving, but not much beyond that. I guess I haven’t talked about it because I didn’t want to talk too much and ended up taking it too far because apparently no one knows what I am doing.
As of last month, I am moving to New York to work in advertising. I originally had plans to intern at a big advertising agency in Chicago for the summer before starting a full time job at an agency in LA, but then I got the a once in a lifetime opportunity to work at four agencies in just two years. A couple months back, I got an offer from Interpublic Group for a two year fellowship program in either New York or Chicago/Detroit, and I accepted. I had my fingers crossed for New York from the day I interviewed back in February, though I would have been happy with Chicago too.
The contract I signed with Interpublic Group is for two years in New York, and every six months I will be working at a different agency. Every six months, a new account/client, a new network, and new experience!
My actual birthday is tomorrow, June 15th, and my flight departs from Long Beach early the next morning. I’ve never purchased a one-way ticket before. It’s a strange feeling.
I don’t know what I’ll do after the two years. I love California, but I can see myself falling in love with New York too. For now, I just need to focus on the next two days to get myself packed and ready to take off.
Thank you again to all the friends who came out Saturday to the beach and the District for my early birthday celebration. It meant a lot to me, and I had a great time. It was definitely one of the best birthdays I’ve ever had.
Thank you to the friends who came over to Allyson’s for a last minute going-away party, and of course, a special thank you to Allyson for organizing it.
You may or may not know it, but I am going to miss you. Keep in touch - facebook, email, iChat, I'm all over it.
