Philly!

My first class let out after less than an hour so I now have time to waste...er, I mean spend doing homework. I'm looking forward to the Philly trip but there have been down sides to it.

Marc's dad is no longer able to be alone but he refuses to accept that so he is pissed that we have arranged for his mother, Marc's grandmother, to stay while we are gone. I understand how frustrating it must be for him to be in his 50s and live like someone in their 80s. He insists he can drive but we hide the keys and remind him that his doc does not agree with his assertions. It's an uphill battle to get him the care he needs as his health declines. Until he accepts his situation, he will have to struggle with both the physical decline and the anger he holds for all of us who are "taking his freedom away."

The car ride will be brutal. Bastian is not a fan of long car rides and Gavin has no clue just how long a ride can be. We've divided the trip up and the trip down into 2-day journeys but it's gonna be interesting just the same. I've decided to purchase a car DVD/TV combo with hopes that it will distract them at times. We're also planning to leave in the very early morning so that the kids will sleep at least the early portion of the trip. The motel we plan to stay in has a pool so we hope for a nice, calm, soothing evening on Friday...before we get up on Saturday and start the process again. I predict I will wind up sitting in the middle row, next to Bastian, in order to keep him calm(er).

Money. That's almost always an issue. We've been careful with expenses of late because we knew this trip was approaching but things are still going to be tight. It's doable but we won't be visiting a lot of museums or anything.

The new van is, well, new. New to us, that is. It's actually an Odyssey from 2000. Odysseys have a good record but it's a long trip, ya know? I'm really worried about something expensive going wrong with it while we are on our trip. *crosses virtual fingers*

I guess it will be what it will be.
