I'm not surprised Capcom has question marks all over the place; the narrative becomes paaaainfully incoherent after X6. To save my sanity I like to think of X1-X6 and Zero1-Zero4 as one universe, and X7, X8, and CM as an alternate timeline.

Aha, but this is where ZX screws everything up! It's a clear follower to the Zero and, by extension, the X series... And Advent has a Biometal with Axl's properties, and Axl's not mentioned by Ciel anywhere (she created the ZX Biometals to counter the Weil Biometal). So Axl has to exist at some place before the Zero storyline to have a biometal able to be based on him!

*winces* Dammit, ZX! I hadn't checked out that one yet, so thank you, neo_qwert, for doing your homework.

Oh Capcom.

*smile* Anytime! Plus, like, I suck at the non-portable Rockman games. So I gotta get my revenge through the Zero and ZX series. (Now, if only October would come quickly so ZX Advent is mine and I can beat it ASAP to see if Model A's origins are in there or left to speculation...)

Yes. Capcom is teh suck on their own timelines. At least the games are fun to play.

I did. So there.^^

I don't even see Zero series tying in all that closely with X series. But Japanese popular culture has accustomed me by now to manga, anime, novel, and movie versions being slightly(?) different but all considered the same story. So I guess it shouldn't bother me to have the same characters appearing in slightly(??!) different games.

Actually, they really do tie in more directly.

Especially as we hear more about the consequences of Zero sealing himself (whenever it ACTUALLY happened) - X in the Zero games clearly speaks about these consequences, including a statement that he finally lost his will to fight when, after a hundred years of going it alone, he discovered he'd stopping caring about the enemies that he fought.

There's more, but I'm at work and don't have the time just now to put this all together properly, so. ;) Ask Neo_qwerty, she's the resident Zero-era expert XDD

RMZ may try to tie in to RMX to some extent. (If you're willing to overlook things like taking people out of their own bodies or turning them into cyber elves, which I'm not.) But RMX doesn't really care much about RMZ. It gave us that ambiguous sealing scene, then brought him right back as soon as they decided they weren't really finished with him yet after all.

And remember, the folks at Inti called their own work "heretical". :P The two may tie together loosely, but far from seamlessly.
