So, what did I do tonight?
Every month or so, the official IRC channel of the Fan Fiction Mailing List has an "Hour Challenge." As many writers as want to show up on IRC, and write for an hour. Then we swap stories and do quick critiques.
Any anime/manga-related fanfic is allowed, which results in an interesting phenomenon. We'll have a "Ranma 1/2" category (a lot of the FFML writers have been doing this a long time) and an "Other" category, in which none of the authors will be familiar with the series any of the others have written about.
For example, tonight's "Other" category was: My ongoing attempt at an Yu-Gi-Oh! Christmas Special fic; a Hinata & Neji-centric Naruto fic (set well beyond the point I've seen in the manga; and a fusion of Yokohama Shopping Diary and the Ebberon setting for D&D. The last works surprisingly well.
