Dad dropped me off at the convenience store which acts as Sandstone's bus depot these days at 4:50 PM, about five minutes before the bus was scheduled to come. I assured him that waiting in the car wouldn't be necessary, as I could shop for a little bit.
Some time later, I looked at the store clock, noting that the bus appeared to be five minutes late. The store clerk said, "Nah, it's just four now, you have almost an hour before--hey, wait a minute." She checked her watch, and discoved that it was actually 5:10 PM. She fixed the clock, and I and the other passengers went out to wait for the rather late bus. At six, we came back in, and the clerk phoned the bus company.
After getting busy signals several times and then put on a lengthy hold, she was able to learn that the new ETA for the bus was 6:40 PM. At seven, she called again to be told that the bus should already be at Sandstone, and the dispatcher would call the driver to make sure the bus stopped in our town.
Evidently, the driver had not been told of the waiting passengers and had skipped Sandstone, so had to turn around and come to pick us up at approximately 7:45 PM.
At this point I turned on my iPod, to learn the batteries had somehow run down over the weekend. Blah.
So, we came in to Minneapolis three hours late, many of the passengers having missed their connections to Chicago or other points. A real mess.
