I'm Walking Into Spiderwebs...

I'm on Holly-days this week! :D

Let me tell you about bike commuting to/from work last week. I did that from Monday to Wednesday (carpooled on Thursday and Friday was Canada Day). Gotta say, aside from all the sweating, I enjoyed it for the most part. The only time that really sucked was on the ride home on Wednesday as I was pedalling against 35+km wind. Needless to say, that tacked on some time to my ride. Aside from that, the rides were usually 50 - 60 mins each way which isn't too bad. 2 hours of biking per day meant I easily went to sleep at night and I was feeling great. After the first ride though, I got a gel seat cover. No one tells girls how those seats can wreck our girly bits and leave us in pain. The gel seat cover has helped, and my sister gave me some anti-chafing cream she makes which really helped, but I'm considering getting a crotchless gel seat. We shall see.

I've repeatedly heard so many cyclist complain about Winnipeg drivers. Here's the thing though: Winnipeg drivers are assholes to everyone, not just cyclists. For the most part, I've found that if I'm cycling properly (i.e. in the curb, not taking up a bunch of lane space, not hopping on to the sidewalk to cut in front of cars, etc) and treating my bicycle as though it's a vehicle, I have significantly less problems. I would say the majority of people give me room and slow down. Yes, there inevitably are the assholes, but rest assured, gentle cyclists, they would be that way even if you were in a car. My 2 really close calls were assholes in big trucks (isn't that always the case?). The last one was at Waverley approaching the Perimeter when some dick in a cement mixer sped (going at least about 90km in a 70km zone) past me without giving any room and passing in front of me short of 3 feet. That was really scary and totally uncalled for as I was in the curb lane where I was meant to be as that strip doesn't have a bike path. Once I get to Waverley and Chevrier, I have a bike path basically all the way to work.

Oh, and I've stuck with the Decepticon name theme I have with my vehicles so my bicycle is now called Megatron. It's also just really funny. ;)

We had a bonfire with a couple of friends yesterday. We went to erotic bingo first...but they had cancelled it "due to the long weekend"! >.< Why not say that last week, bitches? *sigh* So, yeah, we had a bonfire at our place and then played some Scene It.

I'm planning on just taking it easy this week. I have a dentist appointment tomorrow to check out my top left wisdom tooth that is now halfway out. I'd like to just have it removed, but tomorrow's appointment is a consultation to see if it should be removed or not, blah blah blah. Romeo has an acupuncture appointment on Tuesday and then that's pretty much it unless the dentist will get me in to pull the tooth out.

I'm kind of bummed out that my garden doesn't seem to be growing at the same pace as other people's. I don't know if it's the heat, not enough water, too much water, the soil, or whatever else. The potatoes are growing quite nicely and so are the strawberries, but that's pretty much it. The peas are only a couple inches tall, the beet and carrot leaves are very small, the purple beans seem to be stunted, no sign of spinach, and a couple of the red onions have now broken through the soil. There are quite a few seeds that haven't germinated at all or in the case of some of the beans they broke through the soil and just stopped growing. Very peculiar! The raspberry bush has buds, but no berries yet. I'm going to get some essential peppermint oil to put around the garden in hopes that it'll stop the mouse or vole from eating the strawberries.
