[His handwriting is small and meticulous, but only because he was actually focused on making it legible. It slants slightly down the page, without the benefit of lines to keep it from doing so. He pauses no less than twenty times halfway through any sentence or word.]So anybody can read this? That seems kinda weird to me. I dunno, maybe it's ( Read more... )

You get used to it after a while.

I can't say it was ever a dream of mine, but I've got amnesia too. What name did you pick for yourself?

I certainly hope so.

Sven.

That's a pretty name. Mine's Krile!

Welcome to Edensphere. Things are actually pretty normal right now, so you hatched at a good time.

[Pretty? He just chose it because it seemed simplistic enough to remember. With a shrug, he continues to scrawl on the page.] Nice to meet you, Krile. [Oh it's going to take him forever to remember everyone's writing and their names.]

...saying "hatched" makes me sound like a bird. But I guess better a good time than a bad, huh?

Considering you wonder about the normality of this journal, does it mean you are newly hatched?

[He makes a face at the book for a long moment.]

If by newly hatched you mean I only just crawled out of that sphere of goopy snot, yeah.

That accurately describes the experience, yes. [Reads above] Welcome to Edensphere, Sven. My name is Stellaris. As for your poll, had I not been here, I would say a tree makes for inadequate accommodation. Yet humans of old times survived living in even more rudimentary conditions, so I suppose all most of us are equipped with survival genes.

[He whistles slightly at the journal. Another one with big fancy words. He makes something of an effort to talk in an educated fashion. ...er, write.] Nice to meet you, Stellaris. I certainly hope I'm one of them. [A human equipped with survival genes, he means.]

I have. Except my dream always involved apples and big puffy clouds floating by that said hello. And suspending disbelief in favor of the glorious not-a-reality.

[Smiley face goes here.]

[He's reeeeally hoping you're being sarcastic.]

...sans the puffy clouds, that isn't a bad dream. [Because even if you aren't, Sven is.]

darcyredux December 3 2010, 04:57:05 UTC
Oh, it came true in such a fantastic way. Like the waking up from a giant goo-filled cocoon? Better than I could have hoped for.

[Pausing the sarcasm.]

But, my innocent little dreams aside, welcome to Edensphere, Sven.

Oh, totally. I've always wanted to breathe sticky goo in my lungs and swim in it completely in the buff. Who hasn't?

[He grins, sideways, at the journal. His body is so used to talking with his hands and being so animated and visually reacting to everything, it's going to take him some time to get used to communication primarily being written.]

Thanks. And you are...?

Ooh, I don't recognize your handwriting, but I believe I detect a hint of sarcasm in your words. New in the neighborhood?

Reply

skimpysandwich December 3 2010, 04:22:38 UTC
I think I'd be concerned if you did, considering yes, I am really very extra-new in the neighborhood. Just washed the snotty goo out of my hair.

Well, in that case welcome to the fishbowl, [pause--oh, there, he spotted yourname.] Sven. I'm Axel; got it memorized?

skimpysandwich December 3 2010, 04:33:40 UTC
[What a funny catchphrase. Sven quirks an eyebrow at it for a moment before he scrawls.] Axel. Probably not yet, but I'll work on that.

Can't say it's been a life-long dream of mine, no.

You must be new.

skimpysandwich December 3 2010, 04:23:28 UTC
Well that's a shame. Makes it a little less weird to consider. To me, at least.

Just finished getting all that gross green stuff out of my hair.

[He's reading the other comments here, so he sees where Sven introduces himself to Krile.]

Living in a tree is pretty normal, compared to some of the tricks this place tends to pull.

You didn't wait too long to start getting used to this place. [Pause.] Anything you're particularly curious about?

skimpysandwich December 3 2010, 05:42:36 UTC
Oh? Like what?

Ehh, it seemed like a waste of time to spend too long going "Oh Gods, where am I? Who am I? Why am I living in a tree?". [He drums his fingers against the little desk in his temporary housing room, looking over his stuff. Which amounts to very little. He's yet to hit the Bazaar yet.] ...got any particular information on these islands? [He taps his map, idly, as though it would aid Cloud in understanding what he's talking about.]
