Alas my wonderful portrait drawing class is over. I am really pleased with how much I moved forward, and it's been a pleasure to share my progress. here are the goodies from the last 2 class sessions.

This week's portrait class
Value studies of Mr. Plasterhead, (the one with hair.)
we toned our drawing paper with hard pastel by grinding it to dust with a sanding block, then burnsihing it in with a paper towel. This became our eraser. then we blocked out our head, and used a kneaded eraser to locate everything lighter than the tone. The goal was 5 values, and to eliminate ( Read more... ) -
Portrait Class update: Week 4
Last week, I was supremely frustrated. So, I did my homework*, and apparently it paid off, because I felt like someone who could draw this week! and, I got the all-important pats on the head from the teacher! *g*
This week we practised our 20-step* "starts" again, drawing each other, and Mr. Bones. As you can see, I am continuing to improve.

here are my last 2 drawings from Monday's class, of the fascinating Mr. Plaster Head! Actually, its a big help. I dont really get the planes of the face, and this really helped me see them.

first meeting of Portrait class
Last night was the first class meeting of my portrait drawing class. I was nervous. I haven't taken a class in years, and worried I wouldn't like the teacher. She is terrific: amusing, perceptive, attentive, smart. And does nice work.
