A great day

Today has been a great day.

Mum and brother phoned from NZ about 8.30am. Spoke to them for a bit.

Left home at 9.50am with Ju to meet a cycling group she had heard about that does big rides once a month. I was a little bit worried about how my back would handle it but figured it could do with a stretch out.

We got home at 6.15pm. In the eight and a half hours between leaving the house and getting home I managed to:
have and repair one puncture;
ride 50 miles;
see 13 llamas;
visit one 7,000-year-old Celtic grave;
drink two pints of Edinburgh Gold at a riverside pub in Ratho;
see five canal-boats;
get stung by nettles twice;
cross two massive viaducts;
almost crash into two dogs;
experience blindness from countless flourescent yellow items of clothing;
step in one cowpat;
get up to 59kph going down one hill;
get called Australian twice.

At one point I was standing at the top of a hill, looking across paddocks full of gorse and sheep, smelling air filled with the scent of cowshit. It was the perfect antidote to homesickness for NZ. There's something deeply reassuring about the smell of cowshit.

We came home tired but excited after meeting lots of new people and having seen loads of cool places. We had a nice dinner and then wandered up the road to a bar called Iglu for a couple of drinks. It's a really nice little place with Leffe Blond on tap. Its only weakness is that it has possibly the shittest bar staff in Edinburgh but even that didn't annoy us.

Came home, downloaded some Dre and Wu-Tang to my i-pod. Now it's time for bed.

On a slightly less positive note, my boss is back from holiday tomorrow, so I might not be around here or on the ASOIAF boards as much as in recent weeks. I know you'll be heartbroken at missing your daily intake of Vestrit love and wit but I'll try to find time to still give y'all some of the good stuff :p
