For those who don't also follow
divaflip 's journal, we got news about a week ago that
Xanthos probably died on the day he went missing. I got in from work last Saturday, and was told by my next door neighbour that the lady in the house behind us had some news, but it probably wasn't good.
I waited a full two hours for
divaflip to come home, as I figured she might want to come with me and find out. Turned out I was wrong, so I headed straight over to get the news. The story is a bit convoluted, but it boils down to this. The lady plays tennis with a number of other residents in the area, and somebody from down the block mentioned that around the same time that Xanthos had disappeared, she had seen the body of a white cat in the gutter across from her place.
Naturally, that council picked the body up (their job), but without checking for ownership. If it was Xanthos, then he was obviously pedigreed and had two collars on. Now it might not be their job, but you'd think that if this were the case then they'd scan his microchip and call the owners?
Anyway, its not conclusive, but that's probably the only news we're going to get at this stage.
It's patently unfair. Xanthos was such a unique cat with the most placid temperament (unless you were a skink; then he was a vicious serial killer) and the friendliest, most inquisitive animal I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
We miss him. He always greeted us when we came home from work, was always happy to play games, and always ready to accept affection from anyone. Argent still misses him lots too. She's very clingy and has taken to trying to make Bella play games with her, but overall it's just making Bella grumpy.
