And there it goes, my last chance for peace,
You lay me down, but I'll get no release,
And there's a demon in my head who starts to play,
A nightmare tape loop of what went wrong yesterday,
And I hold my breath 'till it's more than I can take,
And I close my eyes I dream that I'm awake.
But I can feel this Narcolepsy slide, into another nightmare.

The party died down and nearly everyone was home in their beds. Smuggler’s alley lay still and quiet in the early morning hours. Not one street lamp could be seen. The alley held its breath awaiting the sun's first rays to illuminate its rows of flats.

Inside Shane’s flat, three young men lay atop the lone mattress. Cody lay on his back, wide awake, staring into the black, afraid to close his eyes and sleep; afraid the nightmares would be even worse than his waking thoughts. His pretense at being injured had worked well. Both Shane and Jake decided he needed special loving care. And they were right. For a while last night, his fears were swept aside.

Yet all too soon the image the crystal showed him came back to haunt him. His body was exhausted, yet his mind was racing. If there was a way around his horrible fate, he would find it. It was not as if he was tempting fate; or was it?

He loved Nathan. He’d do anything for him. After all, he was helping Nathan get what he wanted, even with that little boy. Cody hated that stupid little boy. Why didn’t Angel see what Nathan was doing to him? If the boy didn’t have the wolf, Nathan wouldn’t give a damn about him. The boy was nothing but a wolf to Nathan and he was a piece of filth to Cody.

And then it hit him. Why had he been so stupid? He should have thought of this long ago. The only reason Nathan wanted the boy was because Angel was so willing to share the wolf. What if there was another willing wolf? Nathan wouldn’t be so wrapped up in the boy.

Cody’s breath hitched. What an exciting possibility. And it just might work. His brain was spinning. He needed to get up and move, to think this through.

“Lumos,” he whispered as quietly as he could.

A few yards away, at the opening to the Tarot circle, the long box emitted light. The spell this morning was much different than the one from the night before when he had done the Lumos Maxima spell and nearly knocked everyone off their feet. This morning he wanted only enough light to allow him to collect his stuff and get out of there.

The light softly glowed against his lovers’ skin and illuminated their auburn hair. In this light, either one could be mistaken for Nathan.

To his left, Shane was sleeping on his side, his back to Cody. Shane was definitely not a cuddler. Once the act was finished, it was finished.

To his right, Jake slept on his stomach, arm around Cody’s chest. Jake was lovely. He couldn’t get close enough. If Cody would allow it, he would nestle under Cody’s ear. Yet Cody wasn’t in the mood for that. He ached to be held, but not by these two.

Last night these two lovely men made love to him, yet he hadn’t made love to them. He may have physically been with them, yet every thought, every emotion was of a different auburn haired man. When he closed his eyes, he saw only Nathan. Cody knew he wasn’t being fair to his friends, yet he told himself he didn’t care. They were big boys and they had fun, so what was the problem? He would continue to tell them that he loved auburn haired men. It wasn’t such a lie. After all, he did love an auburn haired wizard.

Cody carefully lifted Jakes arm from atop his chest and slid off the mattress. So far so good; neither Jake nor Shane made a move. They were both still fast asleep. Crawling to the long box, Cody retrieved his wand. Now all he had to do was find his clothes and slip outside without notice. But the night had been very passionate and he had no idea where they ended up. They could be anywhere.

Stealthily he crawled across the floor, shielding the wand light from his friends’ eyes. It was slow work, yet there was no other way. The flat was smothering him and he needed to get somewhere to sort things out. He sure didn’t want company.

Ten minutes later he had his tee, socks and trainers. Yet his jeans were nowhere to be found. Surely someone had not played a trick and taken them. But he knew better. Everyone had left and Shane had locked the door before they had sex. They had to be somewhere inside.

Jake snorted.

Cody turned towards him, pleased to see he was still asleep. However, he wasn’t so pleased that Jake was using Cody’s wadded up jeans for a pillow. Just like Jake. He couldn’t get enough of Cody’s smell. And since Cody wouldn’t let him nestle under his ear, Jake did the next best thing.

Cupping his hand behind Jake’s neck, Cody removed the makeshift pillow and gently laid his head on the mattress.

“Mmmmmpht,” Jake’s eyes opened.

Cody leaned down and kissed his cheek, whispering into his ear, “Shhhhhhh. Gonna use the head. Go back to sleep.” Jake’s eyes rolled up.

Quickly and quietly Cody dressed. Now he was faced with all the locks on the door.

“Alohomora.”

He stepped outside and shut the door.

“Nox.” Cody stowed the wand in his back waist band beside Smokey. Nathan had left so quickly the night before, he had forgotten the poor doggie. He would bring it to Nathan when he went back to their flat. But it was too soon. The boy may still be there.

Hands in his pockets, he slunk around to the back of the house and sat against the wall. No one would see him back here. He was alone. As he relaxed in the cool air of the early morning, he breathed deeply. For the first time since he left his flat, Cody allowed himself to let go. Fear welled from deep inside and he shook uncontrollably. Yet he couldn’t just sit here. He had to make a decision while there was still time.

On the one hand he could go on as he had been, accept his fate. He could continue to help Nathan. If he did this, he would surely die. He had seen his death in the crystal.

But what if Nathan could have a wolf without having Angel? He may change his plans and maybe Cody’s fate would be altered. Cody’s magic was much better than Nathan’s and he could make the ‘sharing’ spell strong enough. In fact Cody was excited about sharing himself that closely with Nathan.

He had to be quick. Tonight was the night before full moon.

The ingredient he needed was in Nathan’s cabinet, yet Nathan was unaware of what it could do. Then Cody would need to use every bit of charm he had to slip it into the wolfsbane potion.

Gods he didn’t want to do this. Gritting his teeth, he tried to keep from crying, but the tears came. “Fuck,” he screamed at himself under his breath, “Get it together. Quit being an arse.” But the picture of being attacked by a werewolf horrified him. He leaned over and vomited. If he wasn’t careful, everything could backfire and he would die in the attack. But he was always careful. He would use just enough to make Angel wild.

Cody smirked. For the first time he needed the boy.

He pulled himself together and started towards home. Becoming a werewolf was a steep price, yet after tomorrow night Nathan would need only him. He would do anything for Nathan. He loved him.

It had been only one day since Nathan had thrown Cody out and told him never to come back. And here he was back in the flat.

He walked to the wardrobe and opened the doors. The shelves were full of magical objects and chemicals; not a millimeter of empty space inside. One vial stood out among the rest. Nestled in a red silk cloth, it contained Nathan’s golden ‘strengthening solution’.

“Nathan luv, you have only enough for a day or two.”

Yet Cody wasn’t really interested in that liquid. He was looking for a packet of wildeseeds. He and Nathan always kept a few packets around as they were a main ingredient in many ‘practical joke’ potions.

“Oh, here’s you’re little doggie.” He threw the portkey at Nathan. “Just don’t pull his ears,” he giggled. “Don’t want to end up somewhere dressed like that.”

Nathan yawned. He knew he looked haggard. He had just woken up after about half an hour sleep. His hair was mussed, he needed a shower and he was wrapped in only the Indian print blanket. “Not to worry dear.”

“Can I take these?” Cody held up a package of seeds.

“Sure. Who ya trying to get back at?”

“No one,” Cody smiled innocently.

“Uh huh.” Nathan raised an eyelid. That dweeb was up to something. “Just let me know how it goes.”

Cody’s smile turned into a sly grin. “I’ll be by later to work on the potion. You shouldn’t let it get this low.”

“That’s what I need to talk to you about. Sit down. It’s important.”

Cody plopped onto the couch and then jumped up. He couldn’t stand sitting where Angel had just been. He sniffed and turned up his nose.

Nathan’s eyes sparkled as he snorted. Cody was so cute when he was being Cody.

“Well, it would bother you too,” Cody shivered. “The place reeks.”

“It does not.” This was too funny. Cody was so jealous.

“Come on and sit. Or do you have something against the floor? You know the boy walked on it.”

Cody removed his wand from his jeans and did a cleansing charm. “Nope.” He plopped down next to Nathan on the floor. “You need a shower.”

Nathan reached over, but Cody batted his hand away. “Not until you shower. I’m not getting Angel stink on me.”

“Better than Jake stink.”

“I showered at Alan’s.” Cody knew how much Nathan hated Jake.

“Takes more than soap and water to get rid of that smell. Just like a skunk.”

“Enough of this. Tell me what happened last night. Did the change we made to your potion work?”

‘Did it ever; it worked better than we thought.”

“I thought it would. The boy was very wolfish. He nearly killed Shane.”

“But even better….”

“I know my potions,” Cody boasted, “Would’ve got an O on my NEWTs if I’d stayed in school. If you think he was feral last night, just wait until full moon.”

“Would you quit bragging about your wonderful wizarding abilities and listen? Angel and I shared his wolf, for a few seconds at least. And then….” Nathan’s voice broke.

Cody’s heart leapt as he watched his lover try to compose himself. Nathan was so cute and gullible. He had no idea what the potion would do now, yet Cody did. Nathan didn’t think big enough, yet Cody did. Nathan only asked to share Angel’s wolf, yet Cody wanted much more for him and he was going to give it to him. If everything went according to his new plan, Nathan would share Cody’s wolf and Cody would share Nathan’s.

“… and then,” Nathan continued, his voice a bit high, “The auburn wolf appeared.”

Cody’s eyes widened as he feigned surprise. “What? No way. Really?”

“Just for a moment. But he definitely appeared. What do you say to changing the potion a bit more?”

“Absolutely luv,” Cody leaned over and kissed him, touching only Nathan’s lips.

Nathan laughed, “The boy did touch my lips you know.”

“Shut up,” Cody sucked Nathan’s lips.

“You never know where my lips have been.”

“Would you shut the fuck up?” Cody’s tongue slipped into Nathan’s mouth.

Nathan was exhausted and he had just spent a few good hours with Angel, yet Cody’s kiss initiated that familiar stirring. Gods he longed to push him back hard against the floor. That dweeb knew what he was doing to him. There was nothing soft and sweet in that kiss.

Nathan had vowed he and Cody would never again have sex in this flat, yet with one kiss, Cody had broken down his defenses. Every nerve screamed for that touch which did more than give release; for Cody did much more. With him, everything was taken to the next level. He had long ago come to realize he was addicted to the dweeb.

Gods he wanted those hands, those lips… that. But no, that was just for Angel. Nathan was the big dog. He was in charge. Oh hell.

“Fuck me.” Nathan let the blanket fall to the ground.

“You sure?” Cody quickly pulled the tee over his head and unfastened his jeans.

“That is if you don’t mind the Angel smell.”

Cody cupped the back of Nathan’s head and pushed him onto his back.

“No chains,” Nathan brought his left bracelet across Cody’s back, leaving a long scratch.

“OK, no chains,” Cody slid out of his jeans and lay firmly across him, skin to skin. Tangling his fingers in Nathan’s hair, Cody licked his neck over the mark. “Not today at least.”
