His lips twitched into a tiny o of surprise before an equally small smile tugged at them. "Ohoho..."

In retrospect, it was smug and self-aware, something that would have gone well with a know-it-all smirk, but when had Big Boss ever been exempt from those? He was the one who bore the brunt of the younger man's criticisms, his obnoxious jabs and smug tendencies, and the same went for Kaz who was at this point quite accustomed to his partner's unusual sense of humor. If the two of them had been back home and awake, this would have devolved into a sparring match with the two of them laughing like idiots as they traded blows. None of it meant anything; it was good fun between friends who didn't know any other way to blow off steam. Being childish was just another way that desire manifested itself.

His dreams were shifting again. No more ugly thoughts, no hivemind collective that encompassed every shred of regret his mind swam with. That warm orange glow was back and now interlaced with pale pink and yellow, colors he associated with the beach, with Costa Rica, with everything he was lacking here in this dingy city that was so very far away from home. It was downright funny how badly you could come to miss the things you took for granted once they disappeared. There was only one thing he had left, one last connection to home, and Kaz wasn't even aware that he was all but rubbing against him.

But Big Boss was on his mind, that much was evident. Another soft chuckle.

"Snake..."

Even in his dreams they fought. How predictable.
