Who: Shikamaru and Hidan
When: shortly after
thisWhere: the baseball diamond
Summary: "Brothers" reunited. Which one will kill the other first?
Warnings: Hidan is NC-17 for language and gore
The moment he'd first arrived in Siren's Port, his true memories had collided with the false; two opposing fronts that erupted into a storm in his mind. He'd fallen to the ground, clutching at his head as if his skull threatened to crack apart so all of that grey matter (tampered with and battered -- scrambled eggs by now) would spill onto the grass. He'd thought he couldn't breathe, but in reality he'd been hyperventilating all the while. The pain was too much.
Hidan... The brother he'd idolized his entire life, who'd always protected him in his misguided ways. His oldest friend, his lifelong partner, who'd saved his life countless times.
Hidan...
The criminal.
The man who had killed Shikamaru's sensei.
The monster he left to rot in a thousand pieces at the bottom of grave that could have easily become his own.
How was he supposed to reconcile the two? With seventeen years of memories separating him from his real life, what was he supposed to do with this information from some distant world? In a moment of panic, he'd told Kakashi soon after his arrival that he wasn't the real Shikamaru. Kakashi had assured him that he was, undoubtedly. But if he was the real Shikamaru, how was he supposed to live with the fact that he no longer wanted to kill Hidan? His new life was a betrayal to his murdered sensei... and himself. He'd become someone without honor, something twisted.
So he ignored Edgeworth's demands and went to the field alone. He wasn't unprepared, no. He had his plans. But with his mind in this muddled state, he wasn't willing to risk anyone else's involvement. If Hidan really intended to turn against him now, Shikamaru would have to find the strength to end him here.
As he stepped onto the green, he could already feel himself hesitating.
