Three days.

Back in my own world, in three days you could travel to five different cities. Indeed, you could travel around the entire world if you wanted to. Most importantly, however, in three days, a criminal could be convicted for his crimes.

In this city, such a process can take weeks, all in the pursuit of some false perfection, some search of definite truth that can never be achieved. I'm sick of it. All this waiting around, the untimely delays, it merely provides the prevalent corruption of this place more time to sink its roots in, for it to nurture and grow. What do we do, wait until the problem is completely out of our hands, or do we uproot it, destroy the foundation and begin anew? That would be my preference.

I've realized now that no legal system will ever be foolproof, no matter the dreams of some idealists who enter this profession. Yet, we have an obligation to protect the liberties and properties of the citizens in our society and obviously, this is not happening. If you make the choice to remove the liberties of another, you are sacrificing your own. That is a choice; the freedom to choose. So, please, spare me the nonsense surrounding criminals' rights and protection. They don't deserve them.

Of course, I am not unaware of our circumstances. That we live in a city where people of volatile natures can arrive by the day, that any peace eventually achieved would be treacherous. Yet, that is no reason to simply give up. It is our duty to make this place as safe as possible. Yes, such changes will be difficult, and is not solely a matter of having legislation passed; however, we must begin somewhere: an idea.

[A pause to take a slightly larger breath, and to ask for feedback for the underlying flaw in her plans:]

I would also like to discuss any ideas anyone might have as to what to do with criminals in a world where there is not a hundred-percent certainty of the dead remaining so.
