What's the first rule of gardening? The heat is subsiding so I don't think anything will die within a day of being planted, but I'd still like to know regardless. I've never grown anything before, at least not seriously; I've heard that homegrown vegetables are better than the junk bought at supermarkets because you don't have to worry about

Naturally, homegrown vegetables are better than the genetically modified ones sold commercially, when it comes to consumption. But from the sounds of it, you're not really sure of what to grow. What is it that you're interested in?

Basically. Someone told me that it's better to start planting in the spring rather than the end of summer, but anything I would've put in the ground would have died anyway with this heatwave. If I can't grow anything to eat, I'd settle just as fine for flowers.

If you just want flowers though, pansies, asters, and chrysanthemums are best planted during this season.
