PRIMER: YT Translations

I'll be the first to admit it!

Not all of us here are fluent in Japanese. Many of us have no experience in the language. Hell, some of us (such as myself) still refer to it as "those wacky moon language runes"! So it's not uncommon to listen to a Vocaloid song (at least, one that isn't an Engrishy cover of a Lady GaGa song) and wonder what the ( Read more... )

Hmm, what about the good ol' subbers at moetron.com?
Two of them would be pjkd5 and MoetronSubs1 (YT usernames).

They've done quite a few subbing projects, I believe :3

Actually, I think MoetronSubs1 might be the main subbing account.
Nonetheless, moetron.com :3

Also, thanks for compiling this list. It's very helpful ^^

Yeah, Moetron was a definite miss on my part; mostly because the older songs aren't much my thing, and the newest things I remembered from them were Double Lariat and Chain Girl. I realized that like... five minutes after I posted. D'oh.

lmao They're practically the only subbing group I really know, so that's why I thought of them immediately ^^

Which brings me to say thanks once again~
Lyrics are such an important part of a song for me, and it's sort of difficult for me, who doesn't understand a word of Japanese xD

Hm! As I'm not big on Kaito, I never knew of him. I'll keep that one on the list for next time I work on this. (I just updated and now I'm starting to see HTML when I close my eyes orz)

KataGatar and hokori-tan are not the same person. (Where did you get that from?)

Motoko and hokori-tan are females.

soundares translates for Moetron Subs now. (He quit a while ago to host http://v-subfan.kokage.cc/ and made his final translation a short while ago)

Would you count blacksaingrain as a major translator?

No comment on your obvious opinionated bias against Vocaloid 1 and the translators' preferred styles =o=

I have no idea why I thought they were; I blame "READING TOO MANY YOUTUBE COMMENTS". It rotted my brain ( ... )

I see what you've done there xD

Motoko is both a subber and a fandubber (She sings! <3) Also a Len fangirl, I'm pretty sure she's female =w=

YouTube comments are untrustworthy. Just logging into YouTube halves one's IQ.

Oh and, lulz. Hokori-tan is my nickname for hokorichan. (We're friends, I proofread some of her draft lyrics for readability, accuracy and grammar. Also we're both Kaito fangirls.)

I'm not going to nitpick your way of describing things or anything, it's just that opinions in what seems to (well, supposedly, to me) be an objective listing seems a bit off~ (For me)

Personally, my ideal translation would be as accurate as possible whilst retaining readability and elegance (or as much as possible), which is what we aim for in our serious translations =D

Well, we're never assuming to be completely objective; we're vocaloid fans, not lawyers after all. I do my best, but the only way to be 100% subjective with something like this is to suck all the fun out of it and, well, to know Japanese fluently so you know exactly how accurate each subber is. And, well, since I'm poking around for sub jobs as opposed to knowing what the heck a mylist is actually for, I'm pretty obviously not fluent in the language. XD;
