You've always liked stories based on reality and I like fiction...

Thought Du Jour
You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.

The above quote is from the film We Bought A Zoo. I finally got a chance to see the film today during my random movie marathon trip at the theatres. I've always been a sucker for Cameron Crowe films. I don't really know why. The shots and the music somehow does a really good job of suckering me in and tugging the heartstrings.

I always use film/TV as a medium for my escape from reality. Things seem so much easier. In fact, certain Hollywood-made moments does the perfect job at bringing a smile to my face. While it's a nice escape, I also have a problem with this. Often things in reality don't come easy at all. The above quote was used when Matt Damon's character was giving his son advice on approaching a girl. The film certainly made it seem like that "20 seconds of courage" is guaranteed to work out 100% of the time. In fact, that's exactly what it tried to convey in the film. In real life? That probably stands closer to 20% success rate. That being said, there is something positive to take from this (and that 20 seconds of courage can be extended to many things in life beyond approaching girls). If you don't take that 20 seconds of courage, then how would you know if something great can come of it? Trying and failing is better than not trying at all. There are times when I think of the 'what ifs' in life because I simply did nothing about it. Other times, I can sleep soundly at night knowing that I gave something a shot even if it didn't pan out.

The challenge is to reach the threshold to display that 20 seconds of courage. We're all only human after all. Sometimes we take the safe way out since it's more comfortable that way. Other times we get that sudden surge of encouragement to take that risk and make the jump.

I've always liked fiction because I know I have 100% control of -absolutely everything- around me. This would also explain why I'm constantly disappointed about reality because things don't always turn out the way I expect them to. So I admit, I'm not truly happy with things at the moment. Since that's the case, perhaps it's time I somehow put that 20 seconds of courage to use and see where it takes me. It all sounds good on paper... so only time will tell whether I actually take this message in.

Oh and another thing. New year = new layout. Well... same template, just different colour scheme and new background. Thoughts? silverzero16
