Moving right along, back to Tsukiuta! This time, we've got the two April song albums~ Both share composers again as well as their second song. And since it's April, it's cherry blossom season, so expect A LOT of sakura imagery! So then, let's get a move on~
(Sakura to Tomo ni Kimi dake o.)
- Starting with the Men's side, the character for April is Uduki Arata, voiced by Hosoya Yoshimasa! Normally, I'd go my own way and romanize his surname as "Udzuki" since that's how it's pronounced, but that's how it's spelled on the main site and I figure people will be able to find it more easily through Google searches this way, so I'll leave it... Anyway, he's a pretty laid-back character who goes his own pace. Since he's expressionless, a lot of people mistake him as being cold-hearted, but he just doesn't care what other people think. He's childhood friends with Aoi (May), and he's the only one Arata ever has actual conversations with.
- Aw man, I really REALLY love this song! I loved it even before I actually translated the thing! The melody's not all that exciting for me, but the meaning of the lyrics is freakin' adorable!! X3 And it's Hosoyan singing, so I love it that much more~♥
(Sakusa-Sakura (Japanese modern Remix))
- Once again, the second song on the album is based on an existing piece. It's also shared by both the Men's and Women's albums, so I will combine notes here.
- I mentioned this a while ago, but it took me until midway through Chisa's second song to figure out that all second songs in these albums were traditionally based.
"Sakura Sakura" is a traditional Japanese folk song about spring. This Remix version uses the exact same wording as the original, just with the order of the two stanzas reversed. The wikipedia article linked above also provides a translation for the lyrics.
- So I learned something interesting while looking up the Chinese lunar calendar in the hopes of making sense of the second line in the lyrics ("yayoi" translates as the third lunar month, and assuming that wasn't referring to the third month of the usual calendar--March--since this is an April song, I figured I'd better do more research). If you've read the character descriptions on the Tsukiuta main site or any of the numerous translations out there, you may have noticed that most of the male characters' surnames end in "月" (pronounced either "-tsuki" or "-dzuki", but spelled "-duki" for the latter, which drives me nuts). It turns out each of the guys' surnames are the traditional Japanese name for the months. For example, "Mutsuki" (Hajime) is the traditional name for "January," "Kisaragi" (Koi) for "February," and so on. You can read more and see the full list
here, if you're interested. Oh, and yes, the lunar calendar is offset by a month or so, so the third lunar month is in April (also known as late spring).
(sing my way)
- On the Women's side, we have Togawa Chisa, voiced by Nonaka Ai. Unlike her male counterpart, Chisa is an overly energetic troublemaker and the life of the party! She's a bit of an airhead and a little clumsy, but she doesn't let that get her down. She's described as a nimble-footed "rabbit" (the first kanji character that makes up her surname is "兎", meaning "rabbit"). And like her male counterpart, her best friend is the female May counterpart, Wakaba.
- You can't help but cheer up listening to this first song. Especially once you read through the lyrics. It's super upbeat and lighthearted, and the words are really encouraging. ^_^
If you wish to hear a listening sample, I have included links to the official site's pages for the albums where the PVs are posted. You can click on the album image art to get to those!
I think that'll wrap things up for April. Up next for Tsukiuta will be the May albums, which are also the last of the Six Gravity and Fluna characters. In the next post, we'll be bouncing back to Free! ES with the 6th character song album featuring Sosuke. Until next time~♪

Translation:
There isn't a reason for it anywhere
They just come fluttering down
Even though the words I want to tell you
Are still shaking inside of me…
Aah…!
It's only you, only you I decided I'd love
It's only you, only you I decided I'd protect
But now, since that will no longer be granted me,
Good-bye… Good-bye…
Like the cherry blossoms that scatter and fall,
Your voice is fading away
Even my earlier swaying feelings
By the time they know they won't reach you…
Aah…!
Even though I was living to embrace only you,
Even though I was crying to embrace only you,
But now, since I can't tell you that "I love you,"
Good-bye… Good-bye…
It's only you, only you I decided I'd love
It's only you, only you I decided I'd protect
But now, since that will no longer be granted me,
Good-bye… Good-bye…
Like a new season comes even for the cherry blossoms,
It seems like a new season comes even for me
Although I can't tell you that "I love you" anymore now,
I'm sorry… Thank you…
Good-bye… Good-bye…

Translation:
Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms
Across the late spring sky
As far as the eye can see
Is it mist, or is it clouds?
Their fragrance upon the air
Come now, come now
Let's view them at last
Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms,
Across hills and fields and villages
As far as the eye can see
Is it mist, or is it clouds?
Fragrant in the morning sun
Cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms
Flowers in full bloom

Kanji: (from the booklet)

Translation:
It's not really that hard
Even if you're asked about it, you don't really know
Even thinking things through,
Some honesty won't kill you
A feisty spirit such as that
Is pretty important, don't you think?
If you're just gonna regret it otherwise,
You should just do what you want!
Even you over there with your head hung in shame,
And you over there looking so sad,
Don't worry about it so much!
Hold your head up, c'mon~!
You know that morning will come everyday
That's why no matter how dark the night is, it'll be okay!
You know there's no such thing as rain that won't stop
That's why you can smile!
Walking at such a fast pace
Isn't necessarily a good thing
But if that's so, then on the other hand,
You should dash with all your power!
Occassionally, there are also times
When you feel down and want to cry
But these passing times
Won't wait for you, you know?
I'll even cast a magic spell for you!
It's way more fun when you're smiling, right?
Enough to send a sheet of spray flying,
Outdistance those tears!
There aren't just fun things
You understand that perfectly, don't you?
That's why I sing this song!
Because that's how I am!
You know that morning will come everyday
That's why no matter how dark the night is, it'll be okay!
You know there's no such thing as rain that won't stop
That's why you can smile!
I'll even cast a magic spell for you!
It's way more fun when you're smiling, right?
Enough to send a sheet of spray flying,
Outdistance those tears!
