I'm back from vacation! I miss the cooler temperatures already... Moving right along with Tsukiuta, here are the March albums. I'm a child of March as well, so I was especially excited to do these translations~ And like 2 out of the 3 preceding pairs of albums, these two share the second song. Oh, and I had to abbreviate the title of the post since all three song titles were too long for the character limit. So then, let's get started!
(UGUISU・CHORD -Harutsugedori no Uta-)
- On the Men's side, we have Yayoi Haru voiced by Maeno Tomoaki. I've been hearing Maeno's deeper voiced characters so much recently, I'd nearly forgotten he can do this lighter voice too (like Shouma from Corda or the "gentlemanly" Camus). Anyway, Haru is our intellectual megane character and he's one of the tallest in the bunch. He's like the reliable older brother figure that gets along with everybody. He's also close friends with Hajime (Jan.).
- Again, I was born in March, so I had high expectations for these songs, probably unrealistically so. So as much as I like them, there were surprisingly not my favorite albums of the bunch (September went and stole my heart).
- Before anyone starts with me on this, I already know that most people have chosen to romanize/translate the title as "CODE," not "CHORD," but the kana can be translated as either and, to me at least, a nightingale seems more likely to sing in musical chords than in code. If it still bothers you that much, you can go ahead and mentally correct it every time you read "chord."
- I don't know about you, but I have been exposed to so much caged bird imagery and motifs in my life that most of those phrases kept popping into my head throughout this translation. Particularly "I know why the caged bird sings" and "a bird in a gilded cage". Too bad I could never find an instance to use those particular phrases, but oh well.
(Haru no Ogawa (March Re Arrange))
- The second, traditionally based song is shared by both albums.
Haru no Ogawa is a traditional Japanese children's song, although the lyrics have been expanded in this "re-arranged" version.
- I tried something a little different with this song's translation. First of all, I borrowed the 4 lines that were translated rather poetically from the site linked above, and this in turn inspired me phrase the translation so that it lines up with the beats of the original Japanese lyrics. In other words, if you were so inclined, you could sing the translated lyrics with the off vocal/karaoke version of the song and it would line up! Pretty much, anyway.
- When I listened through both versions of this song for the first time, I was kinda irked by the synth parts in the opening instrumental. You probably know which I'm talking about... It jars my ears in about the same manner as bagpipes. And it nearly distracted me once the actual singing began, but at least it dropped off after that... =_=
(Harumachi Ibuki wa Kimi Koishi)
- On the Women's side, we have Momosaki Hina voiced by Okubo Rumi. She sounds about as precious and delicate as she looks. Whereas Haru is one of the oldest members of his unit, Hina is one of the youngest in hers. She's usually mistaken as a first year, though she's actually a second year. She's a bit spacey and kind of a crybaby, and she tends to go crying to Ai (Feb.) whenever she's teased or bullied by Kurisu (Dec.) or Chisa (Apr.). And she seems to aspire to have a nice figure like Ai someday. Despite appearances, she's a hard worker and she will carry things through to the end once she's made up her mind.
- Besides the spring theme, the lyrics seems to reflect what I've read about her personality.
- And again, both albums share their composer as well.
If you wish to hear a listening sample, I have included links to the official site's pages for the albums where the PVs are posted. You can click on the album image art to get to those!
That'll wrap things up for March~♪ Logically, up next in the Tsukiuta series will be the pair of April albums. Next post should be Rei's character song album from Free! ES, but there will be a slight detour to translate UtaPri's "GOLDEN☆STAR" next instead! Until next time~♪

Translation:
Though I search, I don't find it, but its voice is certain
Ringing clearly in my ears, its warbles sound in the town of flowers
"What are you thinking now?" it asks the wind of new leaves
A warning of self-expression, it spreads its wings in vain
Although it doesn't dislike its tiny birdcage,
The compensation that spoils it
Is that no one can harm it, ah…
The nightingale's chords resound without end
It will go to meet the spring
The nightingale drops below the eaves
Its sighs fluttering lightly
The nightingale's chords ring out
To a sky without you
The nightingale sings, waiting impatiently
It calls out alone now
In the topsy-turvy blue skies
No matter what I do, it's useless, for its voice is far away
From my opened palms, it boasts about itself from now on
"Why am I here now?" An answer isn't given back
A confession of self-sacrifice, my true thoughts are locked within a shell
So that we don't suddenly lose our tomorrow,
I don't chase it too far, but in truth,
I'm scared it's breaking, ah…
The nightingale's chords resound without end
It will go to meet the spring
Nightingale, please tell me somehow
The world is swaying slowly
The nightingale's chords ring out
I want to see your smile
The nightingale ignites with courage
It flies alone now
…How far?
Although it doesn't dislike its tiny birdcage,
The compensation that spoils it
Is that someone will notice, ah…
The nightingale's chords resound without end
It will go to meet the spring
The nightingale drops below the eaves
Its sighs fluttering lightly
The nightingale's chords ring out
To the same sky with you
The nightingale sings in the town of flowers
I find it alone now
In the topsy-turvy blue skies, it flies

Translation:
Leaping and falling, the shadows on the water
Softly reflect a deep green
Trying to scoop up and salvage
The dreams we had started to forget
Hey,
Smoothly, smoothly goes the brook now that spring has come again
To the violets on the bank
And the lotus blossoms, too
And you of the new leaves that are colored with the hues of spring,
Kind and gentle, you are lured
By traces of new budding growth
La la la la, moving with your light footfalls,
The tresses down your back sway to and fro
Let your form be kind and gentle
And your colors beautiful
"Bloom ye, bloom!" says the brook in a whisper as it goes
Smoothly, smoothly goes the brook now that spring has come again
To the shrimps and killifishes
And the school of little carp
And you of the new leaves that are colored with the hues of spring,
Twined around my fingertips
With dreams of the spring breeze

Translation:
Blessed by the first breeze of spring, trees grew up from the gap
Though we can't quite view it, the sky appears bluer and more distant than usual
Unnoticed by anyone even when it's not crowded,
My eyes shut tight,
Despite how bad it looked, you still kindly reached out to help me
I can never forget the expression on your face
The breath that waits for spring yearns for you
Fanned by the blooming future
The thawing green is too much to bear
Until you notice the new leaves of longing
That have sprouted in my eyes
Many things that don't go well are stirred up by a faint breeze
People are good at ignoring things even when they're drenched in the downpour
As if unnoticed by anyone even without hesitating,
With my back turned,
Despite how bad it looks, I'm still waiting for the day when I can be in full bloom
I sink into testing you
The breath that waits for spring yearns for you
In an instant, a single drop fell
The gardenia's jealousy in the language of flowers
"I am happy," even as I hum it to myself,
It's dissolving into the sky
It's not just right now
Spring, summer, autumn, winter, all throughout the year,
I want to bloom next to you
The breath that waits for spring yearns for you
Fanned by the blooming future
The thawing green is too much to bear
The new leaves of longing that have sprouted in my eyes
The breath that waits for spring yearns for you
The gardenia flower's double blossom opens
The breath that waits for spring yearns for you
Until you notice the new leaves of longing
That have sprouted in my eyes
