The Past Seven Days

I drove down to Greenville on Wednesday, November 5th, to spend the night at Mommy's and go to my interview at GES/GJHS on the following Thursday.  My memory is a bit vague when I try to think that far back, so I'll just skip to the interview.

I'm pretty sure it went very well.  I say pretty sure because every time I'm sure that an interview goes well, I never get the job.  So I'm erring on the side of caution.  Gary Brauns and a Mr. Paslay (don't recall his first name) interviewed me, and they both seemed pleased with my demeanor and answers to their questions.  They both nodded and smiled a lot, and took a lot of notes.

The reason I think it went well, though, was what happened at the end of the interview.  They told me that on November 17th they will take their hire recommendation to the board, and if the board approves their choice, they will call the approved candidate that evening after the board meeting.  Then they asked me, "If we call you, will you accept the position?"  I said yes, of course.

I'm hoping that they asked me that because they want to recommend me to the board.  Why else would they bother asking?  I'm just trying to hang onto that notion for all it's worth.  I really need a job, and this wouldn't be such a terrible one.  I think it may even be fun.

So that was that.  After the interview, I hung around Greenville and relaxed a bit before Friday evening, which was when I drove my family back up to Dixon with me!  Emily didn't come, even though she said she would, but I guess that's to be expected.  None of them have ever been up to visit us yet, so I was extremely excited.

Anyway, Mommy, Megan and myself had a grand time driving 4 1/2 hours on Friday.  Chad was happy to see us when we got there, and we watched The Office before falling into bed.

Saturday was a wander-around sort of day, but it was fun.  We went to ShopKo and ate lunch at Culver's, and then watched Once at the apartment.  The highlight of the day, though, was meeting Ken & Gerry Reid (a husband-wife team of sales reps for the company Mommy works for) for supper at the White Pines State Park Lodge Restaurant.  Not only was the food excellent (think tender mushroom steak, fresh rolls with honey-pecan butter, and hot pumpkin bread pudding for dessert), but Ken and Gerry are a riot.  They are so much fun to be with, and we probably laughed 95% of the time we were there.  It was nice to get out and see people again.

On Sunday we went to church, came home and ate lunch, and then took off driving so Chad and I could show them Dixon.  We had planned to walk along the river, and we did for about 15 minutes, but it was freezing cold and windy so we had to get back in the car.  I was pretty perturbed about the weather the whole weekend, by the way.  Every other day when we don't have company, it's sunny and pleasant, but as soon as we have outdoor plans, it's overcast, bitterly cold, and depressing.

Instead of walking along the river, we drove around town and showed them the beautiful homes and mansions in Dixon.  Then Mommy wanted to see the message centers she sold to a couple rec centers in Oregon, so we drove over there to look at them.  While there, we decided to drive a little further and stop at a neat little '50's ice cream and burger place called Sam's in Byron.

Sam's is just the greatest place.  They make their own root beer with real sugar, and you can make your own root beer float with a genuine soda fountain.  So we all got root beer floats (except Chad, who wanted a sundae for some reason) and shared some cheese fries.  I was so excited that at least something I had planned for the weekend turned out okay.

By the time we got back to Dixon, we had to leave.  I cat napped for about 15 minutes and then drove Mommy and Megan 4 1/2 hours to Greenville, with an Arby's stop on the way.  I've had Arby's about four times in the past week, and even though it's amazing, I'm done with it for a while.

When we got there, I took a hot bath and fell into bed for a few hours.  Mommy woke me up around 8:00, and we talked while she got ready for work.  At 9:00 I dropped her off at work and started driving back to Dixon.  Except for I-55, I had the road pretty much to myself.  I suppose I could have gone a little faster and gotten home sooner, but (go figure) it was really sunny and the scenery was nice to watch.

So...I got back to Dixon yesterday around 1:15 pm.  Chad was glad to have me back, and I must say, I'm glad to be done with driving for a while.  Although if they offer me that job, I'll have to drive it all over again in less than a week.  :(

I think that's enough for now.  My hands hurt and I want to read for a while.
