Ah, Intelligence...

Aug 10, 2004 01:38

Hum, it seems to be a recurring trend lately for people to email me.
It's interesting what flames turn out supporters and authors with
backbone, and which ones don't. Oh, and as a side-note, kagome evans deleted all of her stories, and has created a new penname, kagome-chikara-yuy. I don't understand why she didn't just rename her
existing account! Is she that stupid that she doesn't bother to read
through all of the instructions? It seems like much more trouble to go
and create a new account rather than rename the old one. Does no good,
either, since she has a note in her old account that she has a new one!
I guess she thinks that the flamers won't be smart enough to follow her
to the newest one. It's not like this penname is any better than her
previous one. In fact, I think it is worse!! She uses the name of the character based on Heero, who is also, coincidentally, based on her, is better than all of the other pilots, and is sexy as hell. Personally, kagome evans was a better attempt at originality.

Also, I still have not recieved any reply from her.

Anyway, getting down to business, a new author by the name of Shinigami4986 emailed me concerning the below email to Black-Angel-001 which I was finally forced to post on her story, due to an incorrect email. The email is as follows:

Hey,

I'm someone from fanfiction.net, and I realize that
you're a flamer and all and I can respect that.  I
understand that people have a God given right to their
opinion; but all I'm wondering is that if someone
wants to help someone else with their fics, that they
get forefront blame for the writings.  I mean, I've
co-authored on many stories, poems, and song fics, but
if there was a question in the contents of said fics,
then I wouldn't be the one in question, but the direct
author with their name on the document would.  Now I
may be wrong in your opinion, but to degrade a person
through their reviews section, whether they have a
email to contact or not, should not be the thing to
do. That gives others a bad connotation of the writer,
and is not fair.  But, enough of my ramblings.  Of
course you can do what you want, but all I'm asking is
that you keep reviews to the story, and entertain
ideas from different people.  The whole reason for a
fan fiction is for the 'fan' to write a 'fiction' of
the story.  Doesn't have to be in character or
anything, just as long as it has the characters in it.
That's the beauty of having fanfiction archives.  Wish
you the best of luck in your future fictions and hope
to read some soon.

Shinigami4986 of fanfiction.net

My reply to her, as written during my numbness and a break from the annoying driver's ed shit, is as follows:

Dear Shinigami4986,

Oh, don't worry, I find it just as derogatory and demeaning to have to
post a private email in the review section of story, but it is the only
method in which I know to get that email to that author. I hate it when
I must resort to that method, and believe me when I say a review
actually pertaining to the story itself is on its way.

But I can't be blamed for an author lacking a usable email, can I? In
absence of any alternative method of contacting the author, I must post
it in a review. I would have also posted that one unsigned, so that the
author could have deleted it, but she is not accepting unsigned
reviews! That leaves me in a bit of a pickle, if you'll excuse the
saying. Also, I sort of see it as tit-for-tat; she reviewed one of my
stories in the same manner, so it is only fair. Though I would have
avoided it entirely if I could have >_<.

Also, I did flame and send emails to the direct author of the fic, and
recieved an email not from her, but from the co-author. So, I felt
obliged to respond back--as I am to you--and was confronted with the
circumstances explained above.

Technically, I would say that what I said to Black-Angel-001 was not
degredation of the author at all. On the contrary, I rather respect her
for having the guts to review one of my fics, place me on author alert,
and then invite me to look at her fics. If you were talking about my
basic tearing down of kagome evans, then I do understand where this
email is coming from. I can show you copies of things I have already
said to her, if you so wish, and have not gotten replies from. I would
give you fanfiction.net links, but kagome evans has deleted her fics
entirely and gotten herself a new penname. The only one who has given
any indication that they recieved my opinion was Black-Angel-001, so I
replied back. But now I'm repeating myself.

Oh, and now I've forgotten to thank you for your email. Well, do know
that I am especially grateful for a coherent, well thought out, and
well explained email. I get so few of these that they are treasures.
Your opinions are noted, of course, and I actually agree with them!
Review sections should pertain only to reviews, and I feel incredibly
guilty over posting emails in them... sometimes, however, that is the
only course of action.

I do disagree with your assessment of the meaning of fanfiction, but I
shall leave that alone unless you wish to have an intelligent argument
over it. This email is already long enough, and seems to have addressed
the most important of your points. I could be wrong, though. My brain
is not working very well tonight.

Luck is an unpredictable thing, but I wish it in your fanfiction
direction as well. Looking at your bio, I noticed that you are new to
an account, at the very least. I will save my comments on that, though,
until you ask for them. However, I might feel so inclined as to visit
your one fic, provided I somehow find the time. Please, feel free to
look through my favorites, my bio, or whatever else you so desire. All
of that is up there for the public's perusal, and I love it when
something I find beautiful, or worthwhile, is loved by someone else as
well.

Bah, I'm tired, and probably not making much sense anymore. So, thank
you for finding the courage to email me and state your opinions.
