Last night was an adventure in making shrimp corn chowder. Turns out the recipe I used would have been better for a large group of people, and as a result I now have 6 pints of frozen soup plus two more in the fridge for later. Unfortunately, the spice level recommended in the recipe ended up being very bland, so I'm now experimenting with how to improve it. Still, it's a start.
It's a quiet workday over here, which is good for a couple of reasons. First, I have a lot of writing to get done by June 30: a proposal final draft, a year-end report results section, and the first draft of a manuscript. Second, the blasted summer cold that hit me a couple of weeks ago is trying to make an encore appearance, and I am currently trying to stave it off through coughdrops and pure will.
Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow, as I'd like to do something outside the house for at least part of the weekend. After some discussion with the director about his concern that my travel plans were "disruptive," I've taken a formal leave of absence from choir until Sept. 7th, and I might as well take advantage of it.
How that worked out is that I gave the director my full calendar from April through December for advance planning purposes. He thought it was going to be "disruptive" for the fall season, which made no sense as I have exactly 1 weekend trip planned between September and December, but later changed his mind after looking at the dates in question and realizing that. However, given that particular concern, I suggested I be gone for the summer instead, and he agreed. Changing my travel plans was not an option I chose to put on the table, for several reasons.
Anyway, what that means is that I have two whole months ahead in which I will have more of a true summer vacation than I have in years past, and I intend not to waste them. Suggestions are welcomed! If there's somewhere out here you want me to visit and report back on, let me know in the comments.
In the meantime, I see that there's another meme going around, so...
Let’s play Burn Read Rewrite.
It’s like Kill F**k Marry, but with books.
Have at it, if you like.
