Can someone explain to me why the concept of white privilege is so difficult to understand?

First of all, a ban on Mexican-American studies?  What the fuck?  Excuse me, but didn't Mexcians and other Spanish speaking persons contribute ENORMOUSLY to this country?  And then not only is this not a subject for curricula in the schhols, but then to go so far as to ban books by Mexican American and Native American authors ( Read more... )

Ok, I'd like some feedback. I'm not going to moderate or jump in, I just want to hear what folks have to say. Is taking into consideration a person's race or gender harmful or helpful? Is overlooking or ignoring a person's racial or gender difference a positive or a negative?

I know what I believe; I'm just curious to see what others have to say.

I didn't know about this, but it doesn't surprise me, given the history of US policy towards Native Americans.
