greatest show ive ever been to. hands-down.

wilco. pompano beach ampitheater. two encores, twenty-six songs in total.

for the first couple tunes, we're all chilling in our seats. then tweedy's like, "you all wanna come down here?" he looks over to the wings, "i mean, can they do that?" the security tells him no. but he says, "hold on, no one ever told me they couldn't come down." so without hesitation, we all start making our way down to the stage. i spend the rest of the show, like, arm's length away. no shit.

wilco is america's band. america doesn't really know it yet, but they are.

here's how i figure it:
if you can make a few hundred people in an auditorium get really loud,
you're a rock star. or a politician.
if you can make a few hundred people in an auditorium get absolutely silent,
you're an artist.

(it seems politicians want us cheering them while we watch,
so that we're tame and obedient afterwards.
musicians and actors want us to listen while we're inside,
so that we can shout and talk on the way out.)

*exhales*

"i have reservations

about so many things ...

but not about you."
