Doctor Business

So I went in my for annual lady bit exam and everything is fine on that front.  But my thyroid is concerning my doctor quite a bit.  I've been insanely tired lately and have had consistent weight gain and depression despite exercising and eating better.  My mom's friend just had her thyroid checked and my mom started commenting on how my throat looked bigger and all about thyroids.  As it turns out my thyroid is in fact enlarged feeling but there is also some sort of nodule on the right side.  So now I am taking the rest of the day off work to go to Legacy and have an ultrasound done.  If they find something alarming they may aspirate on the spot.  I also got a full blood work done in the lab so in a couple weeks we will know if my family history of diabetes has caught up with me, how my liver is, if I'm anemic, and how my Vitamin D levels are.
I forgot how much I love my doctor here.  She remembered random facts about me and we haven't seen each other in two years.  She's into natural medicine despite being a medical doctor herself and tries to find solutions that don't involve medications whenever possible.  She's just one of those doctors that genuinely loves her job and cares for patients.
So if it is my thyroid then some meds will take care of it and I'll have more energy as well as may be able to go off my Zoloft in the near future.  She said that I'm taking the bare minimum of dosage and that's pretty uncommon for it to still be working at that level.  When I do stop taking it I feel like I crash hard but she said that with that type of medication when you stop abruptly you have severe withdrawals and it's harder on you than if you stop abruptly with a higher dosage.  SO, with all that said if my thyroid gets treated and I am deficient in vitamin D (who isn't in the PNW, really?) than I may be trying to ease off my meds by summer and use them if big emotional issues arise.  I'd much prefer to take care of it all through therapy, supplements, and natural medicine like acupuncture than be taking chemicals.

My medical life in a nutshell.
