CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Spain
Series: Axis Powers Hetalia
Age: Officially, he's around 519 years old but he's been around longer than that. He looks to be in his mid-20's though.
Occupation: Nation, personification of the Kingdom of Spain
Timeline: Modern, 2011
Personality:
When you first encounter Spain, you will think that he is a very friendly, happy and optimistic person, which he actually is. He is always very cheerful and would go out of his way to spread that cheer. His warm, welcoming personality makes him a good person to have around when you are feeling down or hopeless. Spain will be there to encourage you and make you smile. He also won't hesitate in giving you comforting hugs and his very own Cheer Up Charm to help make you feel better. There is no question that Spain is also a very affectionate and loving person who would give his all for anyone he counts among his circle of family and friends.
Spain is a man of passion and action. If there is anything that needs to be done, even if it's just as simple or mundane as fixing the kitchen sink, Spain will do it with everything he's got. He believes that there is no point in doing anything if you won't give it your all. At the same time, he is the kind of person who would rush head on into action without much thought, especially if it concerns those precious to him. This passion has helped him become one of the most powerful empires in history, the first empire where the sun never sets.
Bright as the sun and with passion and energy in spades, it can actually be quite surprising how Spain is actually also very laid back and relaxed, almost to the point of being lazy at times. He is one of the Nations who values the old tradition of siesta, the mid-day nap, and he takes the time to practice it whenever he can. He believes that anyone can benefit from a nap in the middle of the day and it seems to work fine enough for him, giving him enough energy to last through the day so he can do all that he needs to do. Plus a round of football or dancing after everything has been finished.
Spain, for all that he is a very likable person, also has his faults. He can be quite dense and oblivious. It is said that he has difficulty "reading the atmosphere" or he just really chooses not to; it's always been a mystery. At times, he can come across as insensitive to others because of this, though most of the time he really does mean well. Spain also has the tendency to become very lazy should you give him the opportunity. It's an unfortunate effect of siestas. This laziness causes him to procrastinate or forget about things that need to be done at times.
He may look like he is in his mid-20's and he may be as energetic as anyone at that age, but Spain is very old. He may just be the most clueless and naive derp you may ever meet, but there are times when he shows wisdom that is appropriate for his age and gives advice that is actually quite well thought of and infinitely sincere. His age and experience is most obvious when he is around others younger than he is, how he dotes on them and cares for them in his fatherly way. Spain also has a lot of regrets and he has his own crosses to bear brought about by his long existence but he hardly ever lets anyone see them. He'd rather smile, set them aside for later (when he's alone) and carry on cheerfully.

The floating candles startled Spain at first, much like with a lot of things in the mansion, really, but they were one of the few things here that he quickly got accustomed to. They were everywhere and after a while, Spain started viewing them as constant companions as he wandered down seemingly endless hallways.
The mansion was spooky, even frightening at times, but this did not stop Spain from wanting to explore it. Blame it on how he used to travel and explore the world in search of spices and treasure. It was a new place and Spain yearned to learn what he could about it. He had so many questions about the place that he just couldn't sit still. And so he wandered the halls, looked into rooms and pinned down to memory the sights he discovered. Perhaps what he learned could be useful later on for one thing or another.
Exploring the mansion wasn't easy. If you weren't scared off by the ghosts, the decor could very well make you uncomfortable. How much more horrible would the mansion be if there were no lights at all? Spain was most thankful for the candles that lit the dark, gloomy hallways and made his passage through them much easier and more comfortable. True, the candles didn't completely banish the foreboding shadows and they floated when they weren't supposed to, but they were familiar and warm to Spain who lived so many centuries knowing only the light provided by simple, serviceable candlesticks. It was like stepping back in time and Spain didn't mind it one bit.
