Hooray for anti-religion movies

I saw the Golden Compass yesterday.. And I really rather liked it.

I think the best part about the movie was the anti-religion factor.  The first thing the movie tells you is that there are other universes - which basically equates to an alternative explanation as to how we came about... Meaning an alternative to God.

Lol. Very, very nice.

Even though I haven't read the books, I agree with just about all of that.
Someone I knew once said that she didn't like it when movies told the audience what year the movie was set/where it was set, and in this case, I totally agree. Serafina's introduction was basically a dead ringer for a magazine article I read about the movie a couple of months back.

And I also did hear that it was exactly three chapters that they cut out - just before it was released. I have a vague idea of what happens at the end of the book, and I do think it would have been better to end it that way.

The dumbing down part pissed me off too. It was the same as when they changed the first Harry Potter to the 'Sorcerer's Stone', rather than that Philosopher's. puh-LEASE. Lame, lame, lame, lame, LAME!

And the CGI was good, but by the end it looked like one of those movies where the special effects guys are being paid too much and are having too much fun - as you said, reducing the quality of the actual story.

Anyway. You didn't spoil anything. I most certainly do plan on reading the books. ^^
