Lee (The Letter) - He seems to have worked out his pitch problems. I really like this - jazzy and fun, and his growly tone fits nicely. His stage presence was better - he still looked kinda pants-poopingly nervous, but less so. Ha ha ha…Ellen and her crazy metaphors, love it. Boo, Simon. Lee reminds me of someone, lookswise, I can’t figure out who. Is it short-haired David Cook, kinda sorta?
Paige is singing Phil Collins? I swear, if she sings “Against All Odds” I will barf.
BARF!!! OH MY GOD. SERIOUSLY??? DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY DAMN PEOPLE HAVE SUNG THIS SONG??? WHY DON’T YOU JUST DO “ALONE”???
Paige (SRSLY???) - Pitchy, shaky, and sounds like she doesn’t have enough breath support. Yeah, that just wasn’t good. I’m glad the judges agreed. Can’t believe Randy said it was “terrible”. I regained a modicum of respect for him.
Tim is singing Queen? This night just gets better and better, huh?
Tim (Crazy Little Thing Called Love) - I like this song. His vocals were good - I actually liked when he reached for the lower register. The theatrics were a bit much, it seems like he’s just trying too hard. OK, he didn’t change it up much, but I didn’t hate it as much as the judges seemed to.
Aaron (Don’t Want To Miss A Thing) - It was OK. Not jumping for joy, but it was pleasant enough. I did like some of the liberties he took with the melody.
Oh my god, Ryan made a funny - calling Aaron “David Archuleta” was amazing.
Crystal Bowersox (Me and Bobby McGee) - Wow, she looks very nice. She sounds great, as usual, and oooh…she took it up a notch at the end. That gave me chills! Like!
Big Mike (When a Man Loves a Woman) - Seems like a good song choice for him. I do really like his voice, and he might be cheesy, but at least he’s emoting. I bet Simon will call this a “moment”. :-P Expertly done, Big Mike. Wow, I guess I totally disagree with the judges. And Simon - I would way rather have 11 scoops of ice cream than just one.
Andrew (I Heard It Through the Grapevine) - Poor guy. I think he feels like unless he rides a unicycle while doing a handstand, the judges won’t like it. And he’s not wrong. Having said that, I didn’t think this was so great. His tone wasn’t as nice as last week, and he just seems like a monkey jumping through hoops now. OK, Simon was a little harsh, actually.
GLEE returning in 3 weeks! Hooray!
Katie (Big Girls Don’t Cry) - Oooh…her voice doesn’t sound good in the chorus, it sounds nasally and sharp. I don’t think the problem is her style or stage presence tonight, I think it was the vocal. She looks comfortable, but doesn’t sound good.
Casey (Power of Love) - He just earned a million cool points for meeting Miley and saying “I’m a fan…of….your dad”. She did actually have decent advice for him, though. He looks more comfortable AND sounds better this week. I like the arrangement. This is his best performance since the first week of the semis, I think. And probably even better.
Didi (You’re No Good) - “Bandzilla” is a bit overpowering. I like her connection to the song, though. She slowed it down and that seemed to infuse it with a little gravitas. I liked it. Crafty, Didi. It was a little pitchy, but not nearly as bad as Katie Stevens. Wow, can’t believe how much I’m disagreeing with the judges tonight. I don’t know what the crap they’re listening to. Good for her for sticking up for herself. I definitely dig her personality.
Siobhan - Hee hee, she said “wicked cool”…go Mass! Ooh…like the hair! It’s still weird to hear that voice come out of her like 95 pound body. Not her best performance, it was a little screechier than she usually is, and the notes weren’t perfect, but she’d still be much better than most of this crop on her worst day.
Now to the rankings:
1. Crystal
2. Big Mike
3. Lee
4. Casey
5. Siobhan
6. Didi
7. Aaron
8. Tim
9. Andrew
10. Katie
11. Paige
I’d really like Paige to be gone. She seems like a nice enough girl, but she’s done NOTHING to earn a top 12 spot, let alone a tour spot.
Also, Miley Cyrus was actually less worthless than some of the mentors we've seen before.
