American Idol Top 12 Boys

Feb 25, 2010 08:25

The boys sucked it up tonight.  I was expecting more from a few of them.  I hope it's just first week nerves, because a lot of them seem like very nice (and maybe even talented) boys

.

12. Jermaine Sellers (Get Here) - Is there something wrong with the sound?  Oh my god.....this is a HOT FREAKIN' MESS, minus the hot part.  I'm not convinced he hit even a single note in that song, and his voice sounded weak and strained.  That was....just plain awful.  Thank you, Simon, for telling it like it is.

11. Alex Lambert (Wonderful World)  - His voice is kind of nasally.  His hair is kind of bordering on mullet...  Um, it just wasn't right - the song was too big for him.  There were pitch problems.   He did look really uncomfortable.  Ha ha ha...Ellen called him out on the mullet!

10. Tim Urban - This isn't sounding good....his falsetto is just not right.  The second half of the song was definitely better than the first.  OUCH, Simon.  That was really harsh.  The guy seems very likeable, I don't think Simon needed to be so cruel.  Then again, I'm a sucker for guys with floppy hair.  That was weird - the way they were going on about his looks was almost insulting, though.  You don't need to make him feel bad about being attractive...geez!

9. Toddrick Hall (Since You've Been Gone) - Well, that was original, I'll give you that.  The ladies apparently love him.  It was a little more "rap"py than "sing"y.  I guess I was entertained, but it wasn't vocally impressive.  At least it wasn't boring.

8. John Park (God Bless the Child) - He seems less confident than I would have expected.  Don't love the song choice, but it definitely did get better as it went on.  It did seem emotionally flat, which I think was nerves.  But it was still not a complete wreck, and mostly on pitch.  He's also endearing...where did they find all these sweet guys?

7. Tyler Grady (American Woman) - He looks really comfortable, and he cracks me up.  Very entertaining.  The vocals were pretty okay.  I think what Simon calls "trying too hard" is really just him being nerdy.  I don't think he really believes he's a 70s rock god, he's a nerd who wants to dress like that.  I thought it was an overall not terrible performance, especially by tonight's standards.

6. Andrew Garcia (Sugar We're Goin' Down) - I agree with Simon.  I was looking forward to this guy, and I was hoping he'd deliver something great, which I suppose is kind of unfair.  It wasn't a great song choice, but being decent easily puts him in the top half tonight.

5. Joe Munoz (You and I) - Is this Jorge 2.0?  Sorry, is that racist?  He's also incredibly nervous and you can hear it in his voice.  He sounds decent - he's hitting notes, and he's not a total train wreck, which is more than I can say for several of the other boys.  Aww...he has cute puppy dog eyes.

4. Aaron Kelly (Here Comes Goodbye) - Poor kid seems terrified, but he's definitely giving it his all.  Not a bad vocal, and he's just so sweet and endearing.  The judges are  right about the confidence, though.  If he could pull it together, I think he'd be really awesome.

3. Lee Dewyze (Chasing Cars) - He seems very sincere in his singing.  A few flat notes in there, but overall I think it was good, and relaxed, and earnest.  Thank you, Simon. :-)  Kings of Leon is "hard rock", Randy?  WTF are you smoking, because I want some!

2. Mike Lynche (This Love) - Good song choice, he looked great up there.  It was a little fast, but it was good for a first rearrangement.  I want to give him a hug, but I fear he would break me.

1. Casey James (Heaven) - Wow, is he really going acoustic?  Ah, there's the band.  Started shaky, but he gained confidence.  Ugh, Kara sucks.  Y'know, I think several of these guys are more attractive than him.  But he sounded good, and it was easy to listen to.
