Have now started season 2 of Once Upon a Time

I have now seen 2x01 and 2x02.

And they are AWESOOOMMMMMMME!

Seriously ... I really enjoyed the first season, but the first two episodes of season two are right up there with my very favorite episodes of the first season -- or even better! There is NOTHING I don't like about the show right now. It's just all great.

A few random points of squee:

The story with Mulan and Sleeping Beauty -- ♥ ♥ ♥ !!!!! Once it became clear where things were going, I was so afraid Mulan would sacrifice herself for Beauty and the Prince's happiness (as 99% of other shows would have done). And then ... the PRINCE gets fridged and Mulan & Beauty have adventures! SHOWWWWWWWWW. ♥ (And now with Snow and Emma in the mix, too, on their own life-changing field trip! And Cora!)

All of the stuff with the fairy-tale characters adjusting to the real world is so great! It keeps making me laugh and then turns right around and breaks my heart.

I really like what they're doing with Regina, past and present. I still have trouble with what actually happened between her and Snow (it's one of the things I didn't like last season), but as long as I ignore that -- which isn't hard -- I'm greatly enjoying how they're bringing nuance to her character while still keeping her an antagonist.

And despite my dire predictions about Rumpelstiltskin/Belle -- I actually love how it's going! Now that their post-fake-death relationship has started to take shape, I'm actually liking the reality of it a lot more than some of my more romantic fantasies about it might have gone. I really love that it's not a sudden heel face turn, but rather, a series of choices, and most of the choices he's making are still the wrong ones, and the show doesn't let him off the hook for that. And I love that, once again, she came back by choice, and that Gold neither tried to coerce her nor keep her by force -- in fact, he warned her away, but she's staying anyway. Because it is her choice to stay. This relationship could so easily become squicky, and for me at least, it's been no squick and all wonderful.

And the show made me like David. Seriously, show, wtf.

This season has really been keeping me guessing, and every time I think I'm going to hate where it's going, there's a sudden left turn into AWESOME instead!

Right now I am guessing that the guy who gets the "broken" note from the pigeon in 2x01 is Bay (sp?), mostly because I can't think who else he could be, although I feel as if (narratively) it's too early to bring him into the show, so I'm not sure. Don't tell me; I'm only up to 2x02! Also, I am very curious which fairy-tale character Dr. Whatsisname is. I, er, may have gone through the list of Disney animated movies trying to figure it out. Robin Hood? Peter Pan? ("Are they still nuns? Can they date?" LOL.)

THIS SHOW IS SO MUCH FUN!

I also noticed for the first time, watching the most recent episode, that all the cars are from the 1980s. And the clothes and everything else too, I think! I'm not sure if there is anything modern in the town at all. What lovely attention to detail!
