Title: Overload
Day/Theme: February 27 - "What shall I do to shun the snares of death?"
Series: Ace Attorney
Character/Pairing: Mia Fey
Rating: G (No spoilers no one doesn't know already)

Being summoned was like dying in reverse, only faster. It hit Mia every time she was summoned like the statue had, just faster. It didn’t hit harder, but with only the added force of suddenly living again. Everything was brighter, sharper, louder, heavier, smellier than before. Every sense was amplified to nearly intolerable, a feeling that was only dull by the one thought of cheating death, if only for a few moments.

In death, everything was dulled, a mere shadow of itself and reduced to only memory. She only grew angry when she remembered what it felt like to be angry. Emotions were harder to draw, slower to feel. She supposed now there was some weight in the statement she had heard (and ignored) before, that emotions were only chemical reactions of the body. The only time her emotions felt real was when she controlled Maya or Pearl.

She didn’t take those times for granted. Even though every time she was summoned it hurt, with all the overpowering senses and emotions, the ones she could only feel traces of in death, rushing at her. Even though the lights, so often complained about being not enough, were too bright; the irony taste in Maya’s mouth where she had chewed a lip raw in nervousness was too strong; the touch of her clothes, made of fine silk for the Master’s daughter, was too abrasive; the sound of the judge’s gavel, so often not enough to maintain order, was too loud in her ears; Phoenix’s cologne, barely noticeable to the normally living, was too strong. All these things jarred her, and it was a miracle that she was able to form a sentence through all the emotions, so strong for her death-dulled senses.

Still, she embraced it all. When she returned to the other side she still felt it. She could feel the rush of anger, the warm pride, the sweet happiness, even on the other side. Sometimes, it felt like she wasn’t dead at all.
