Day/Theme: February 28 - "Time doth run with calm and silent foot"
Series: Ace Attorney
Character/Pairing: Phoenix Wright, Kristoph Gavin, Trucy Wright
Rating: G (Spoilers for GS4)

“I’m sorry for your loss.”

“You say that when a person dies, not when someone’s disbarred.”

“I’m still sorry.”

“It’s fine.”

“Yes, well, here’s my card, in case you’re still not fine later on.”

“...thanks.”

“Any time. The door is always open.”

---

“You didn’t have to pay for dinner, you know. I’m not that poor from losing my job that I can’t pay for a meal.”
“What’s a meal between friends? Not that I honestly expect you to pay for mine sometime. Poker doesn’t pay that well.”

“Har har. Anyway, how’s...your brother?”

“I suppose he’s doing OK. I think he’s gone back to Germany for a short holiday.”

“Shouldn’t you know about your own brother, considering you’re one of the few people who can probably stand him?”

“Is that resentment I hear?”

“Doesn’t change the fact you should know more about your little brother.”

---

“How’s Trucy these days?”

“She’s OK. She didn’t like changing schools so suddenly, but what can you do?”

“Accept my offer to place her in a much better school which won’t require her to transfer if her father suddenly has to find a new apartment because he was evicted because her father's friend will be paying tuition?"

“And be in your eternal debt? No. And it was a rhetorical question.”

“You don’t think I didn’t know that.”

“No, I don’t. How did you get that scar on your hand? I just noticed it now.”

“Ah, this? A long time ago. It never healed quite properly since I picked at the scab.”

“That’s a bit hard to imagine. The Great Kristoph Gavin with a nervous habit.”

“It’s hardly a nervous habit if you only do it when injured.”

“Too true, but new habits can stem from old ones that can’t be fulfilled.”

“...I must admit, you have me there.”

---

“Sorry about this.”

“It’s no problem. Though I hope you don’t make a habit out of getting attacked by angry poker players whom you’ve beaten at their own game."

“Not my fault they can’t play well enough to be me-ow.”

“Did I forget to mention it would sting, hm?”

“You sadist. You did that on purpose."

“Of course I did.”

“...”

“That’s how you clean wounds.”

“...right.”

“Do you doubt me?”

“...ow.”

---

“I have a student.”

“I thought you didn’t take students.”

“Not normally, but this one caught my eye.”

“Really now? He must be something else then, if he caught your eye.”

“You say that as though I’m incredibly picky about things.”

“This coming from the man who spent an hour picking a meal from a Chinese takeout menu? And two months on deciding a new carpet for a part of his office he admits to not paying attention to normally?”

“This coming from the man who wears anything that’s moderately clean, and eats anything that stays still for long enough to get his mouth around it.”

“I do not. Anyway, when do you think he’ll be ready to take a case on his own?”

“Not a while. And if I can, I would like to keep him from having to fly solo on a case even after he’s had one. He’s definitely not you. I think that such an...illustrious beginning would be detrimental to his reputation.”

“Can’t wreck a reputation if you don’t have one. Any more.”

---

“Daddy?”

“Yes, Trucy?”

“Do you trust Mr. Gavin?”

“Why do you ask that? He’s my friend, after all.”

“You didn’t answer my question, Daddy. And you’re fiddling with the hem of your sleeve.”

“You got me there, Trucy.”

“So, Daddy, answer my question: do you trust him?”

“...for now.”
