For my family, "crud" generally refers to stuff that causes sinus problems like allergies and such. My sister is sick, I have a terrible cough, and the entire adult mission trip group came home with some sorta crud. Thus spawning my sudden song of "Crud is in the Air". It is both a parody and a pun. w00t.
I've been meaning to post on this thing, but I've been recovering from Washington. My family vacations are rarely restful. I'm usually exhausted by the time I get back and it can take a couple of days for me to get all my energy back. I will make a post about it soon, just not right now. --;; I'm tired and I want to talk about many things. Mainly the con stuff. I've been ignoring all responsibilities since I got back, till today. I got work done today. Some at least. --;; I have calls to make and I feel bad for not making them sooner... >>;;; I've just been so exhausted. Vacation ate all my energy. Three consecutive days of strenuous exercise (1. hiking on a mountain, 2. hiking 1.7 miles, and 3. kayaking) with only one day between that and the flight... ugh. Not good for me. That one day wasn't even restful. I am not a morning person, but I had to be for the vacation. Now all I want is a week of rest and leisurely activities, but apparently I'm not allowed to do such a thing. --;; *shrug* I'll just go at a slow pace this week.
Pottery class is awesome. Tom is my instructor once again and since there aren't a lot of people in the class (There are three including me and the other two have jobs that will either keep them from coming or make them late) it's almost like having private lessons. I'm one of the few students he's ever had who has walked in with a list of projects to do and making practical use of the class. We spent nearly an hour chatting about the project. He's familiar with some anime and manga, though the concept of fanart is fairly new to him. I told him of a dilemma that came up and he helped me find a solution. He's even going to teach me how to do slab building! w00t! I'm going to have more free time to do pottery anyway, so it's awesome. I'm going to put most of my focus on pottery.
What? Focus on pottery when I have so many other projects to do for the con? Well... Most of those projects have been dropped now. Apparently, the Anime Iowa peeps don't want fanart to be sold at the convention. It's really not official for Artist Alley. At least, I don't think it is because it was never in an official announcement, which it SHOULD be! *shakes fist at representations of those in charge of the con (which are brooms with faces)* They desperately need a business major in the mix. It's not good business to keep your customers confused over rules! Especially those who are trying to prepare art in time for the con.
It's kind of sad that I, who have absolutely no experience with running a business nor have I really studied such things since an field trip in 5th grade, feel like I could do a better job running the con than they could. So long as I could get a competent and interested group together. However, I have heard horror stories and I do not wish to ever do such a thing in my life. Probably because I'm the type who becomes a perfectionist when it comes to planning things and planning this trip has really opened my eyes to what I require from those who are making the con happen. If you want customers to return you must make things as smooth and clear as realistically possible for them. Not all customers will have the intelligence you hope they have. --;;
Oh yeah. They cashed my check. So I know they got the forms and even though I don't have a confirmation email all I have to do is bring a copy of the check with me to prove it. If anyone says otherwise I will present said copy and make a scene that will dwell in their nightmares for years to come. >>;; Actually, the best thing to do would be to take it up with the people in charge, which I will most definitely do if there's a problem.
Back to the fanart and project issues. I made a post on the forum and the person who replied said I should be okay with the home made figurines, but... >>;;; I don't want to take any chances... Plus. Well.... It took a long time to make 30 onigiri and the odds of me finishing my ambitious figurine project without losing my mind and/or obtaining an ulcer from the stress is very slim. So I'll just make a set to show off for commissions.
I can understand their concern. Apparently much of the entertainment industry is getting rather crazed about people making a profit from art that isn't purely original.
This just means I don't have to kill myself getting crap done. Some fanart pieces for a portfolio display or to display on the table. I will admit that I'd feel better selling things that are an original concept that pay homage to anime and manga rather than using something that someone else created.
I MUST DESIGN! *holds up pencil and lightning flashes behind* .... That was weird.
Though, I did make those 30 onigiri and I have like.... 17 snakes or sommat. *Sigh* I'm just going to bake everything that I have and then finish making one set of figurines. Oh well. So. Yeah. I'm going to focus on my pottery, do some of the sewing projects, and just try to come up with some more original stuff to make. So long as I have stuff to sell for all three days I'm good. This does lift quite a bit of pressure from me because those figurines are really time consuming and I've been able to make about 15 pottery items within three hours. Pottery and my online courses are my main focus until the pottery class ends which won't be until July 24th. Even if I have stuff to finish up Tom will probably let me work a bit past that date. Then I'll just focus on courses and other projects. There's also the musical, but I don't plan to do anything big in it. However, I should find something to do during the longer rehearsals that will contribute to the table. hmm.
I should also find my Garmin. It'll be most helpful when I need to navigate to where Anime Iowa is. ^^;;;
Oh yeah! I got my fox ears and tail! They're freakin' awesome. The tail is long and fluffy. The ears are awesome. They're made with barrettes and the girl who made them sent a little thank you gift with 'em! It's a cute little flower cellphone charm. ^^ Yay. The tail is soooooo fluffy. *hugs it*
My only major problem right now is the cough I have. It's terrible and my sinuses aren't even stuffed up. I have no idea why I'm coughing so much either. I'm also losing my voice a bit, which isn't good. I'm hoping that my voice is just screwed up from the cough and chatting so much today. It would suck to lose my voice when I haven't even learned the songs for the musical yet. --;; bleh.... If this cough persists for more than a week then I'm goin' to the doctor.
OH! One more thing! I have gotten addicted to a game called Professor Layton and the Curious Village. It's a mystery game full of puzzles! I'm to the point where I can finish the game, but I want to find and complete all the puzzles I missed. The cashier said that I'd hate it, but keep playing. I don't hate it. I love it. It's so much fun! Some of the puzzles are really frustrating, but when I finally solve 'em it's awesome. I would recommend it to those of you who love brain challenges. ^^ <3
I have the opera tomorrow again... Though I'm kinda worried because I know the rep people tried to call the house when I was talking to Rachael and I never got to call them back. Though I think they'd try to call the next day if it were really urgent. *shrug* I'll just find out tomorrow.... Er... Today. o.O;;; oops.
Yeah. Time for bed.
Oyasuminasai, minna-san!
