59. Best of Youth - This apparently started as a TV miniseries and was moved to the big screen. I wish the Canadian release had all 400 minutes, instead of a cut version of 366 minutes. Nothing spectacular to draw you in, just a good, quietly told tale of 4 brothers from Rome over 4 decades of their lives. Well acted, moving and satisfying to watch.
60. Domino - While the story was interesting, I didn't much like the visual look of this film. Too much jumping around for my taste.
61. North Country - While I liked this movie, it would have benefited from more characters with shades of grey instead of trying to portray them all as either black or white. And the courtroom ending, while dramatic, was a bit hokey.
62. The Weather Man - While this is a decent enough 'mid-life crisis' kind of movie, it sadly pales in comparison to the closely released Lord of War. I think it would have been better served by having more time between release, as I couldn't help but compare the two Nicholas Cage roles and this one isn't even close to his work in Lord of War.
63. Separate Lies - Interesting weave of intrigue and moral dilemma. Very well acted by a stellar cast.
64. Empire of the Wolves - More Jean Reno goodness. And one in which his character is very much about the shades of grey. Not quite what I'm used to in his films, but ranks up as one of his best.
65. Visitation - A decent enough supernatural kind of film, if a bit melodramatic in parts.
66. Death Tunnel - I like decent, low budget horror films. Sadly, this is not one.
67. The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till - Definitely a 'must watch' film. This one will go into my collection if we sell it off at the store. 14 year old Emmett Till is lynched in Mississippi for whistling at a shop clerk. I'm not going to say more, as I think everyone should watch it for themselves.
68. Ice Harvest - Lovely twisted, dark humour. This one was so much fun!
69. Walk the Line - Good acting, the singing was great. But, Phoenix did NOT sound 'just like Johnny Cash' as so many have said. Sounded reasonably good for the very old songs Cash records. And speaking of the old songs, how come they didn't include any of the really fun ones he did? I still remember Dirty Old Egg-Sucking Dog and others. I think my dad still has those albums! And while Reese Witherspoon did a credible job of playing June Carter Cash, I don't think it was award-worthy.
70. Cake - Fun chick flick, nothing more.
That takes me up to the end of February. Guess I'd better update this more often. :)
