Review of Stargate: Continuum

Well, this is what I call service! This movie punched just the right button, and made me realize how much I miss this team. As much as I love Stargate: Atlantis, SG-1 will always be my first love. As soon as I heard that music and saw my team coming down the hall, I got a little misty. Those who just limit themselves to SGA are really missing something.

The team dynamic was as fantastic as ever. Honestly, these people have some of the best chemistry I've ever seen on television.

I have to say that despite some naysayers early on--and believe me, I spent enough time on the SG-1 boards to know there were scads of naysayers--I can't picture SG-1 anymore without Cameron Mitchell, Hank Landry, and Vala Mal Doran. They're all part of the fabric of the Stargate world, and I find it hard to believe they weren't always a part of all of this.

I have to make a special mention of Jack here, though. I was incredibly excited to see RDA put on the old BDUs again, and he didn't disappoint. He was his cranky, antsy, flippant self, and his interaction with the team and Baal was so him. I couldn't help but think back to "Abyss" when Baal addressed Jack.

The extraction of Baal actually made me a little sad, as it spells the end of an era. Of course, if we ever need the Goa'uld again, I'm sure some writer will dream up a way to bring a System Lord back into power.

Still, sleeveless Cliff Simon.

Jack's temporary demise was well done, but we all knew he'd be fine, so it wasn't terribly sad. I liked that Cam had to drag both Daniela and Sam away from him, though. A testament to their friendships. And speaking of friendships, yay for Daniel telling AU!Jack that Danie and his Jack are best friends.

Vala actually had some nice character moments in this, I thought. I appreciated that they allowed her to reflect on her own captivity by the Goa'uld and had her reach out to Baal's human host. And of course, we got to see her being all bad and scary in the alternate timeline.

The loss of Daniel's leg wasn't as brutal as I thought it would be. That was about the only major thing I had been spoiled for--that and the alternate timeline thing. I was expecting it to be much worse, but it worked out fine, and it gave Michael a chance to play the vulnerable side of Daniel. One of the most touching scenes in the movie was when Daniel called himself to offer encouragement. I got teary there. And I loved his snarky "I told you so" attitude when Baal's forced finally came to Earth.

And we can add another death to Daniel's file. How many is this?

Ben just killed me during most of the episode. When he went to his family's farm in Iowa... Really, other than Jacob Carter, Cam is the only one to have a strong, on-screen relationship with his parents. The fact that during the alternate timeline, Cam was a man without a past or a present was incredibly sad. And the fact that he had to live out his life all alone in the past was equally as poignant. And during the questioning, when he started rattling off stuff about the casa. LOL!

And all the guest stars:

Since I was relatively unspoiled for this, I squealed out loud at Apophis!

It was a little bittersweet to see Don S. Davis. :(

Good to see Henry Hayes again. William Devane is just such a likable President.

Poor Paul Davis. He got to walk in and do nothing. Even Siler and Walter got more screentime than him. Is Davis still a Major? If so, he really must not be doing well career-wise. You'd think he'd have made Lt. Colonel by now.

All the minor System Lords. (Yay for Steve Bacic!)

I like how the guest stars all worked into the fabric of the show and weren't just "Oh, look! A cameo!" Nicely done.

There might be other stuff to say, but I'm a bit headachey...
