I'm back to work today after a fantastic weekend off :))
Friday was hanging with Holmesians day. Had lots of fun at the
National Army Museum with
spacefall,
kathie_d,
wolfie_sara and
pudupudu, it's unfortunate that the Cold War section was under construction but their Conflicts of Interest section was brilliantly set up. The food in the 'Sherlock Holmes Pub' is rather fantastic, disappointedly though the puddings haven't been named canonical, I think we should write to the management and ask that this is fixed forthwith! Meeting was very interesting, great talk about the Battle of Maiwand and an amusing one about Watson's wounds. I personally think he wasn't wounded at all but concocted the story to explain the real reason he got sent home. After catching up with a few other Holmesians we departed company and I messed around with my camera whilst waiting for my train.
Saturday was another busy day for me, I had tickets to see 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' in the afternoon and 'Enron' in the evening. I was very excited about 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' as I'm a huge fan of the books, I certainly wasn't disappointed with the film! Fantastic, if a little disturbing in places - definitely one of the best thrillers I've seen in a long time and can't wait for the sequel to arrive in September! (
Full review on my blog). 'Enron' as a production is outstanding, very cleverly designed (I know the guy who did the AV stuff :)), I have to be honest though I didn't quite understand exactly what was going on but I think that's more to do with being completely lost with financial matters. Wandered the side street one before the Noel Cowerd Theatre, the one with all the book shops... anyway discovered not only is there a vintage map shop but there is a theatre bookshop! Must return for a visit during open hours this week.
Sunday I lazed about playing video games and then headed off to see 'Shutter Island' at a late screening. It's a pretty entertaining B movie, unfortunately it's not as a clever as it wants to be but it's perfectly watchable - soundtrack was a bit off putting! Personally I might wait until this is out on DVD rather than watching it at the cinema as it's more of a DVD film I think. Got home, cooked dinner and played with the guinea pigs.
Monday sat in my garden reading for a bit before getting ready to head out to see 'Ghosts'. It's an incredibly bleak play but I really liked it , brilliantly acted and I really liked the set. Recommended if you're in a classic play mood.
