Happy belated birthday to
spacefall :)
I'm back in London after three FANTASTIC days in Penzance :D, sadly didn't see any Cornish Pixies, mermaids or sea monsters... (although did take a strange photograph).
The train journey down wasn't too bad, I was sitting in the quiet carriage which is a place I recommend to anyone wanting to avoid children/screaming babies/people on phones. Chatted to a nice elderly couple who were on their way home to Jersey and listened to a great radio sitcom set in Bletchly Park called 'Hut 33'. Arrived around 3:30pm, checked into hotel (very nice, close to the station - recommended) and then went in search for food. In my hunt for spooky things I came across a pub called 'The Dolphin Pub' which just happened to be near the South Pier and within easy walking distance, had lunch there and OMG the food! *dies*. Rest of the evening was spent wandering around the harbour and eating ice cream, tried to stay out until sunset (about 9:30pm-ish) but was too knackered and so went back to the hotel for an early night.
Got up early the next day and headed out to take in the morning tide (and wake little brother with random phone call from beach). At 1pm I went to the South Pier to get ready to go on my marine tour, which was fantastic and if anyone is visiting Cornwall then I really, really recommend the Marine Discovery tours. Sadly only saw dolphins, seals and had a brief sunfish encounter... was hoping for some basking sharks but alas... nevermind. That evening I had an okay Chinese meal on the harbour, it wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either. During the tour is probably when I caught the sun, I have a lovely sun burnt nose, tops of ears and back of left hand... was wearing sun cream as well, next time I know to wear more than factor 30.
Again got up early the next morning and went to catch the bus to Land's End - that place is beautiful, and I'd love to see what it's like in bad weather with the waves crashing against the cliffs! Left Land's End around 3pm on the open top bus, may have spent part of the journey with my eyes closed and boy do those drivers have great clutch control! Once back in Penzance I decided that I wanted to go paddling so walked to Newlyn... there were times when I wished I had brought a swimming costume but then I realised it was quite cold.
Sadly I had to leave :( train journey back wasn't terrible but not fun either -- too mean screaming children and people talking on their mobiles (people, seriously... the fact that you continuously get cut-off and have to do that "hello? hello? hello?" thing, surely it would be easier to turn it off?) Back to work on Monday but tomorrow I'm off to the cinema and might do some things around London that I wouldn't normally be able to do.
Also there is a chargehand job advertised in The Stage *sends off for application form*.
Anyway... PHOTO SPAM!
There are actually 122 pictures, so this is just a taster you can find the rest of them on my Flikr page :)
