An exciting and scary week

My week was well exciting in that roller coaster sick to your stomach kind of way.

Two Fridays ago, I was going out to lunch with my 80 year-old mother ( a regular weekly occurrence that both of us look forward to). She was feeling a little under the weather with a cold, our first stop was the local pharmacy (CVS) to get some pictures printed that she wanted to send to a friend in Canada. She said she was feeling a little queasy and wanted to sit in the car until I finished. I gave her my keys knowing I would only be a minute or two more. then she started talking to me about things that did not make sense.
Mom you are scaring me why don't you open your eyes. She said “Because the therapist hasn't taught me how yet.” She opened her eyes then and didn't remember what she had said.,I took her home and helped her up the stairs. As we were going through her purse to get her keys, she went over sideways,  scraping her hand on the house as she tried to stop herself. I was able to call for her neighbor to help my mother get in the house. I phoned my father and my husband and by the time he got there she had another episode and we called 911.

We were in the hospital emergency room until about midnight when they admitted her. And so began a week long odyssey of tests and trips by us back and forth to the hospital. My85 yearold  father had to be fed and kept calm.

The good news - she had not had a stroke. Her carotid arteries in the front were 80 and 70% blocked. Surgery on one of her arteries was on this Friday - with the other one to be accessed over 6 months. A night in ICU and home the next day. The visiting nurse was at the house on Sunday morning and will be stopping in daily for a while. We’ll also be spending some more time at their house for a while.
