Pony gushing <3
I met up with my part leaser, Kelly, and her mom today at the barn. I haven't seen Kelly ride Sugar for a few months now. They looked really good together, Kelly even put Sugar over some jumps for me so I could watch. Sugar is an adorable jumper. I had all these suggestions for Kelly but I didn't want to sound preachy or critical ... I don't want Kelly to feel like I'm judging her riding. I did give her some tips though, and she seemed genuinely grateful for them, and interested in trying them. I'm hypersensitive lately to any feelings of "hey, I could do this", so this probably means nothing, but I do enjoy teaching. I could never be a riding coach, though - I don't have enough of my own riding talent!
Kelly is interested in trying some new things with Sugar, like some schooling shows over the summer, or Pony Club ... it'll be cool to see what they end up doing.

Sugar is looking really good this year ... shiny and fit. She needs to be trail fit, though, and that means getting out on the trails again, now that the weather is supposed to improve. My friends Riina and Meghan that I used to board with at another barn, have gotten a horse trailer - they're going to trailer over to my barn on Saturday morning and we're going to go for a few hours in Golden Ears. I'll be the guide since Meghan nor Riina are familiar with the trails - it'll be fun! Riina says both horses are good on the trail but everyone has a different definition of a trail broke horse, so we'll see how things go. They sound like mature, well broke horses, so I'm sure they'll do just fine. I'm planning a route that won't be too strenuous for the horses and won't involve too many obstacles (such as deep river crossings or really rocky areas), but will still be a lot of fun and, of course, scenic and interesting. It's hard to find a trail around here that isn't scenic, though. I love the trails in this area.
Speaking of which, there is a conference this week in Maple Ridge about the local trails and what we as riders can do to help preserve them and fundraise for their upkeep. I definitely plan to attend.

- I'm officially booked as photographer for a two-day trophy show in August of this year, so that's sweet ... I even to get to hire an assistant. I have a lot of planning to do, but I have more than enough time.
- There is a new tack shop opening in town ... I wonder if they're hiring? ;-) I'm doing some investigating to try to figure out who is going to be running it.
- Note to self: don't forget to book road test. And don't forget to learn to drive a little better beforehand. Ugh.
- Four people have left the pet store for various reasons, and they've only hired one new person, so I've been getting some extra hours, which is nice. I don't know yet if I'm scheduled at all during the May long weekend, so I'm going to call first thing tomorrow morning and find out, because the suspense is killing me. They did schedule me for Mother's Day, so let's hope they took pity and left my long weekend free.
