Last night, when we had
yangenigma over for dinner we had a red wine. We are not sure where it came from. It may have been part of the ones we bought for the wedding or it was a gift at some point. It is 2001 Condesa de Leganza Crianza, an estate wine bottled in La Mancha. It was a wonderful wine. Very rich even though the most noticeable notes were berries. I loved the way it tasted from beginning to finish. It started with a bit of punch and mellowed out for an extremely smooth finish. I TOTALLY reccommend this wine. Because it is so rich, though, I would have it with food, as opposed to just sipping, since it might seem too heavy on its own. I also add that is goes FABULOUSLY with chocolate!
Tonight we had a local white from Pleasant Hill in Brenham, Texas. This is their Collina Bianca which I believe debuted in 2006. It is a very tangy white, its subtle aroma belies this. The Blanc du Bois berriness is there, but only subtly at the finish. This wine would be better if it didn't make such a grand entrance. It takes awhile to finish as well, with the tang hanging on a bit too long. I get impatient for the fruitiness to level it out. I do this this would taste great with a brie or the like and I think my issues with the flavor would mostly get addressed if this wine were served either with fruit or a light summery dish.
