When I first saw the topic this week, I immediately thought of food. Yes, food. To be more specific, deconstructed dishes. What that means is that a Chef takes a dish and puts it together in a different way than the usual but when it's eaten, the original dish is till what comes to mind. Some Chefs completely change the ingredients when they deconstruct a dish. And that's okay. As long as when the dish is eaten it still tastes like the original dish. It could be a play on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich but presented as a tart or even a cookie. As long as when you take a bite, you immediately feel as if you're eating a PB&J.
So, my entry this week is going to be a photo blog as I make one of my favorite comfort foods. But deconstructed. I'm making Cottage Pie. Most people are more familiar with Shepherd's Pie which is minced lamb, mashed potatoes, cheese, onions, and carrots. Cottage pie is the same thing, only made with beef. The ingredients are put together and baked. That's what I am making today. In a new way. I've never done this before so don't expect perfection. I'm just hoping it's edible at the end.
Thawing the meat
Carrots and potatoes
Seasoning the meat
Mashed potatoes
Almost done
Adding the potatoes and cheese
Time for dinner
I hope that you enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed making it and eating it.
