It's getting close to the deadline for author sign ups and I'd love to see more Harry Potter and BTVS authors participate in this.
But it's also getting close to the auction opening for bidding. So I wanted to make sure I post at least once more (and I'll post again around the 10th just before bidding opens).
It's a great cause and you get fic out of it. So if you can participate in anyway, check out the site and register as an author or consider bidding on an author.
For those of you unfamiliar with it I'll give you brief history of what's going on. Stacie is part of the Gilmore Girls fandom, and in 2007 was diagnosed with both Breast and Ovarian cancer. She has no medical insurance because she had just started her job and her husband is a truck driver. Cancer treatment is expensive. She has $200,000 worth of debts and is still in treatment. Her Ovarian Cancer is Stage 3.
Her friends started a website to raise money to help her with the medical bills, and in April this year they held a multifandom author auction which raised a lot of money for her. Enough to pay for surgery and treatments she needed. But they still need a lot more to cover her medical costs and for her to continue treatment, so they're holding another aution in September.
Most of the participants last time were Gilmore Girls (obviously), Doctor Who, and Twilight, but everyone is welcome. There were a total of 54 fandoms represented by at least one author and I really think with more promotion the number of people participating could go up so much...we all do fic exchanges and ficathons all the time, why not do one for a good cause instead of just because it's Christmas or it'll get someone else to write a fic for us?
If you don't write, but do graphics, they need people to help with banners and icons to use for promoting the auction. If you don't do either but maybe can afford to bid on someone that is of course, needed too.
How It Works
Now through September 4th authors can register to be included in the auction. You download the registration form and fill it out. With what you'll write. You can be as specific as you want. How many words minimum you'll write, what pairings, what type of fics etc.
Then on September 11-14th, bids are taken on the participating authors. If you win an auction you can specify what you want the author to write for you. Within the guildelines they set in the beginning, obviously.
The authors then have one month to write the fics that they promised.
Links for the auction
Support Stacie SiteForums and where to bid. And if anyone is interested I've signed up for:
3000 Word BTVS
3000 Word Harry Potter
5000 Word Doctor Who
10,000 Word Torchwood
and twenty 100 word drabbles for any of the above fandoms for the bids of $10 or more.
I'm not listing the restrictions and stuff here because you all basically know what I write. And if you don't, it'll be listed on the auction page in September.
