It's so nice out~ 75 degrees, windy... I can hear the neighbor's wind chimes goin' crazy. It's very relaxing.
I actually got through the bulk of the homework I had to do over the weekend, even with ShadoCon going on. It was an odd con for me, mainly because I saw it as more of a chore than something fun. It was getting in the way of more important things I had to do, but I was required to go to get the interviews I needed for my research project. I did get all of them, and had some fun, but it wasn't the usual "escape" I associate with conventions. As a result, I kind of didn't want to be there.
As for the con itself, it had its highlights, but also a lot of low points. It was their first year, so I'll give them a bit of slack. Their biggest issues were with panels, since a ridiculous amount just... didn't exist. Only ONE of the panels I wanted to attend actually happened. I either swung by and no one was in the room, or I waited for it to begin only to have a volunteer tell everyone it was canceled. This happened about five times. Not cool :F Also had to drive some ways to get food to avoid spending bundles at the hotel restaurant.
Their main events were pretty good. The (mostly Gurren Lagann-dominated) break-dancing show was so entertaining that I saw it twice, and I heard good things about the tournament show I ended up missing. I also missed the Cosplay contest (unintentionally), but AMVs were run well. The dance was above average, with good music, lighting, and effects. Definitely better than the Orlando cons. As far as I know, no major drama went down, either. The people in attendance were all super-friendly and nice.
I'll probably go next year to see if they've worked out the kinks. If they have the same issues, I will likely reconsider going the following year. It is nice to have a con in the Fall, when cooler weather makes everything much more pleasant. So, I kind of want it to be awesome :O It has the potential.
I got a nice surprise regarding my issues with Honors Program on Tuesday. After I turned in the third revision of my proposal, both my professor and my faculty advisor finally approved it! I was so frustrated with that proposal, and so tired of the professor looking at me like I wasn't good enough to be there. And finally, praise! I think he realized that I actually was having serious personal problems and wasn't just slacking off. It felt so good to hear him apologize, and say he thinks I'm doing well now :'D
This weekend, Sarah's mum is gonna stay with us a few days. I hope we get to do some fun stuff- currently, my plan is to mention EPCOT since this is the last weekend of the Food & Wine festival :O DO WANT.
