Well, I thought I didn’t have anything to do this week, but of course there is no rest for the wicked.
In preparation for the 4s tournament in Lake George, my team met to practice Monday night. I ended up getting this massive splinter from the wood that lines the court. I couldn’t get it out at home after a half hour of trying. Dominic eventually got it out using a sterilized push pin to cut away the skin. I squirmed and yelped the whole time. It still really hurt though, and I couldn’t step on it yesterday without severe pain (it’s on the ball of my left foot, so not stepping on it means I have to limp around the office on the heels of my feet). I was afraid it might be infected, but the cut looks clean, and it feels a little better today. I think there is still a minuscule piece of wood in there, which is why it still hurts.
Yesterday I put a listing on Capitol Region Free Stuff asking for used pet care items. A lot of people replied, so I’m going to pick up a cat carrier, two litter boxes and two scratching posts! At the same time I decided to put up a post asking people if they had any tiger lilies or black-eyed-susans I could have. I just love how these flowers are all over the region right now, and because they are a local variety they really require little maintenance. Anyway, this woman in Amsterdam replied, so I went to her house last night. She literally had a garbage can full of bulbs she had just pulled from her garden! So, now I have about 20 lbs of tiger lily bulbs at my house. There is no way I’m going to have room to plant them all, so if anyone local would like some of them, PLEASE come get them! All you local home owners, I’m looking at you! I also got a message from someone in Albany with black-eyed-susans, so I’ll probably go dig those up next week. :-) In other words, asking for free stuff = success!
Tonight I have another night of Volleyball practice, and then tomorrow I think I’m going to start planting bulbs (I’ve got to get them into the ground soon, or find a way to keep them moist until I do) and then I’m going to the O Bar for Karaoke with Dominic and his house-mates. Anyone else want to join us?
Oh, I also have 3 house plants (at least) I want to give away. One is the spider plant, and that is in a big pot, and about 3-4 feet in diameter. I have a plant stand for that one that someone could have. Another plant is this indoor onion plant. It’s got long leaves that I have propped up using sticks, and it’s supposed to flower, but it didn’t get a flower this year. The third plant is one of those leafy ones that has long vines that grow out from the main plant. I’ll probably take pictures so people can see them, but I figured I would give people here first notice in case anyone was interested.
My mom and sister are coming to visit next week. My sister has an interview in the Boston area for a Seminary she’s interested in. I’m excited because this will be the first time she gets to see my house. They will be here Tuesday night and then Friday night. My mom thinks Abigail would like Saratoga, so we’ll probably go there on Tuesday night, even though I’m not sure what we will do besides go out to dinner and walk around. Any ideas? Then on Friday there is the Alpha Psi Omega pub crawl, but they don’t seem too interested in participating in that. So, I’m not sure I will go to the pub crawl, or if I do it will be after having dinner with them, and I’ll probably try to get Abigail to come along. It kind of sucks because I’m supposed to be the organizer of the crawl, but family comes first. I’m sure other people can help organize if there is still a group that wants to do it.
