Ainu of Northern Japan, Takakura
I don't even want to open this book to get the guy's full name. Really not bad for what is was, but my eyes had a tendency to glaze over every other sentence. A book written (and translated) by an academic for academics. It's biggest saving grace is it made the assumption that the other academics knew little about the subject matter. I had no trouble understanding it, but it was just one of those things I had to force myself to absorb. And it's taken me a full month to read the damn thing when it's not even 100 pages long. Anyway...
Total=1/57
So I have a couple new story ideas and a couple older story ideas that won't let me be. And then there are the Remi edits, which have stalled until I can get up the motivation to rewrite a huge scene that happens to be the first of the four most important scenes in the novel. Which would be why the first version sucks in so many ways and why I really, really am not looking forward to tackling it. As well as the reason why I can't just make a note, skip it, and come back to it later. Where's the story-fairy who can just wave her wand and have the whole process done already?
I've been thinking about checking out the UW library system lately, but have been putting it off due to a desire not to stay in a building for hours upon days, and too many of the books I want just aren't in the public library. But one of the women I work with is taking a class and got a borrower's card that she hasn't used. My frustration at not getting the books I want came up in conversation this evening and she randomly dug it out of her purse and gave it to me. WIN! Maybe Tuesday when I have the day off, I'll take the bus up to the UDistrict and stock up. I don't know if this card runs out in October or runs through it, so I want to load up while I can.
In other news, I'm watching Children of Dune with Grey. I love it. I think it's been well done, minus some acting/directing tics. As a note: I've never seen any of the Dune movies before, nor have I read the book. Maybe once I've seen all the movies and am taking a break from the research, I'll give the books a try. Right now, I'm just feeling ridiculously read-out. I don't even have an interest in fiction, for the most part, and can barely get through the books I have out of the library already. (At least the two I want most from UW are memoirs...for some reason, those are just fine.)
That's my life in a nutshell, at the moment. Well, one very dim facet of it, but that's probably as much as I could fit in a nut's shell. And since I've been trying to limit my internet time in order to actually accomplish things around here, I think I'll call that good.
