The Drowning City, Amanda Downum
The first book in the Necromancer Chronicles and this author's first book, period. She's represented by an agent I'm watching and it sounded interesting, so I decided to check it out. It is good. Surprisingly so for an idea that I think many writers have considered before, but there are reasons why few of them have made it into published form. The main character is a necromancer, sent by her country's government to help along rebellion in one corner of an empire. There are three viewpoint characters. That threw me off a little, but I'll now admit that they were necessary. I'm looking forward to the second book.
Total = 1/56
In other news, Tait was here for a little over 2 weeks for a visit of awesome WIN. Kiri and Melanie are now back from Eugene and I got to see them for a few minutes last night. And Morgan leaves very, very soon for Maine. I am jealous.
There's a ridiculous amount of reading for me to catch up on before the library demands its books back, so of course I'm avoiding it. But I have begun my edits to Remi's story and last night I got an idea for a sequence of short stories about a mercenary, cursed never to die as long as she keeps fighting, and the god of war who both cursed her and loves her. I haven't decided yet if there will be 3 or 4, and I may just combine them into one longer piece, depending on their length.
Oh! And I've strained my wrist. I'm not sure when, where, or how, but there are a few things I am now avoiding doing and a few more things I'm learning how to do one-handed. Currently, typing is neither of those, but I suppose it should be. >_>
