"I'm giving thanks we don't have to go through this for another year."

Actually, it wasn't bad. Not bad at all.

The food was good and the company was, well, familiar, at least. There was much screaming from the little ones and much barking from all the dogs. There were those lazy, random turkey-induced conversations about everything from train wrecks to Aladdin to the price of real estate.

There were also revelations. Like that the one, lone cousin who doesn't live within driving distance is pregnant. Again. But, hey. She's switched shifts at the gas station, so she's not working with the baby's daddy anymore. There's that, at least.

The best part of it all was when The Cousin from Boulder (stoned out of his brain) passed out in the middle of the living room floor.

Kris: Dude, I'll totally PAY you to put peas in his nose.
Me: Hmm.
Roo: I'll do the peas for free but if you want whipped cream it's extra.

Speaking of my brother, we didn't fight the whole time. Not even when he left to go eat free range turkey and pumpkin pie made from freshly ground pumpkin ('cause you have time to do that when you DON'T HAVE A JOB) with freakshowhis girl friend.

In fact, in the spirit of sharing. Or whatever. I gave him my copy of Anansi Boys, which I loved, although I didn't find it as mindshatteringly cool as American Gods, and he gave me Coheed's new album, Good Apollo I'm Burning Star VI, Vol 1: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness.

And because I'm still in the mood, here are two songs from it:

Keeping the Blade.

Really haunting instrumentals.

And Always & Never.

If beauty sits the child's kiss
of laughter I amend
Can you catch her if she runs?
With this I share with you
All of this count to no end

Lovely guitar. Gorgeous vocals. And not so much of the Iron Maiden tribute thing that the rest of the album has going.

Tomorrow, I'm going to finish stringing Christmas lights and then, AND THEN, Karl (the Peruvian/German) is taking me to the Hot Deco Nights exhibit and then out for Moroccan.

And THEN, on Sunday? Mom and I are going to the Nutcracker. And sometime in between all of that I need to grade final papers because, holy shit, there are only two weeks of class left.

Oh. Almost forgot. Broncos won.

humor, thanksgiving, music
